But you up the chances for general incompetence to commit mass homicide down the line.... that might be worth the guaranteed single kill really considering the chain would eventually go until everyone on earth is involved otherwise and anyone could fuckup or go for the runover on purpose and take out a ton of folks (bad people do exist)

It only takes 33 doubles to surpass the population of earth
So everyone switching the track after that would be able to just end life

Or idk if that means the track will then be empty because everyone is already tied up on the tracks the train already passed

At that point if every on earth is laying the track there will be no one left to switch the track and humanity is dead.

Sounds like "would you kill baby Hitler?"

That is a paradox alright. Easy answer is yes, but to actually kill a baby...I doubt most who say yes could actually do it, even knowing what he was going to become. I dunno man.

He had many close calls in WWI and in the years after as a budding *edited* p-word figure, I'd rather go back to one of those times and make sure the bullet went in the right direction.

I dunno, knowing what Hitler would become I don't think that would be an issue with the whole baby thing.... issue is I think that's a bad way to go about solving the issue as far as the stepping on a butterfly trope goes. Your solution would be better for not affecting too much of the future.

But then you have other complications. If the Hitler (or whoever) has gained notoriety, they could become a martyr in death. Maybe offing them as a baby preempts that.

Who knew murder could be so complicated?

True, plus if he never existed would WWII really have exploded (pun intended?) into the huge worldwide event that it was? WWII was what pulled us out of the Great Depression, granted it was Japan that got us into it. Lot of what-ifs embedded in that whole thing.

I do like me a good alternate-history story, Man In The High Castle (a what-if-Germany and Japan-had-won story) had such potential but the show never really hooked me. I should try the book I guess

You make a good point, maybe we go back further and avoid the baby complications and instead drug his mother into infertility?

Or be the father figure he never had?

He may have had one, I'm just assuming. Been awhile since I read up on his childhood

That railroad track with literally the entire human population on it starts to look more appealing after a while. At least it's straightforward, right?

Yeah, let's just do the 33 iterations or whatever and wipe the slate, animals are better stewards of the earth.... although we should probably shut down anything that could go critical once we leave... like nuclear stuffs
