Fuck man, that sucks. I don’t suppose the dealer had some kind of warranty, 30 day warranty or anything? Those independent used car lots usually don’t offer much of anything besides junk 3rd party warranties. That really sucks sorry to hear

It wasn’t a dealer, just a tech at a shop

    oooof -- that sux. :(

oh right - but maybe you'd get both to respond to one call! lol. Though, I have an Ellie and a Riker -- if I get one to come, they both often will.

    lol. "bless her heart" lol.

Is that where it came from?

Thought it was a private sale - I had always suggested staying away from private dealers to him

Ah ok. Well depending on the guy and your relationship maybe he’d be open to working something out on a repair given how little time has elapsed since you bought it off him. Wouldn’t expect him to but worth an inquiry

Yea private. I did say when I was buying it you know if it has issues I’m not going anywhere, implying I could take it back if it had issues. So I’m trying to work with him see if he’d maybe give me at least some money back, but for now he’s kind of giving me the runaround, saying sorry bud you bought it so I guess we’ll see what happens.

I am having it towed back to the shop where he works at. I don’t think it’ll go unnoticed that the truck that he had just been working on and just sold is now back there and anon running condition. He might be somewhat motivated to work with me. But at the end of the day I can’t blame him for me buying it with rose colored glasses and not doing my homework.

it is still kind of damming that the first major drive I took it on outside of just around town ends in it breaking down and overheating. It almost would’ve had to been bad when he sold it to me. Either that or it’s just a hell of a coincidence.

We've made some daring first drives of big builds/changes; seemed to have modestly good luck but also terrible luck when everything seems good too.

Like when my timing belt went -- thank glob I was already back to town; just had to tow it home with the audi at the time. I'd been out in the middle of nowhere the whole weekend -- it decided to wait.

unless it was a flip he just got off a previous customer or something then yeah I’m sure he knew it had an overheating issue at least. But thems the breaks sometimes when buying used privately or just in general. Hopefully he will work with you a bit

nah, havent spent much time around there but I definitely need to do some more exploring in that part of the state. it sure is beautiful

Ive had close calls with SXS multiple times a season, i figure its inevitable that one will wipe me out coming around a corner way too fast lol

A few years ago I went on a two-week/3000-mile road trip from Colorado through Utah, Death Valley, down the California coast from Monterrey to San Diego, Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Four Corners, the Taco Bell near my house, and then put the truck in the garage at home.

The next time I went to drive it, the battery had completely failed. Not even a click from the starter.

I knew the battery was 10 years old when I left, but it hadn't shown any signs of trouble prior and it was just far enough down the to-do list that it didn't get done. The truck was flawless over the course of the trip at least.

This wasn't a close call at least. More like "wtf are those headlights attached to that they caught up like that?". I pulled over and let them pass as soon as there was space.

That was exactly what came to mind when he said he got it from a tech

Hell, even I fucked with vehicles we got in on trade because $500 in a customer's hands is better than a $200 trade equity in their contract

Your post is confusing me a bit

You said you bought it, and told him "you'll be around" if it has issues?

If so, that doesn't at all imply that he has any obligation to it

Not trying to sound mean, you definitely don't deserve all the shit that's gone on with cars you bought but man....

Next time you need to buy a car, take one of us with you, seriously
