How much weight you reckon the missing drivetrain would be?

 

i dont have the time to do the drive. thats my big issue. otherwise id fly out there and drive back with the truck and a rental

 

You only gunna be missing a engine and the 5vzfe isn’t that heavy

 

its about 800 lbs if its a manual a reckon

 

It can't be that heavy. The max tow weight is 3,500 - I should be well under that.

if it wasnt for the mountains id say youd be fine. but the mountains and the 4 cylinder with the auto will be dead. it would hunt gears till it had no clutch material left in it

Compared to some engines out there isn’t not that bad. Now vw bug engine light but its not crazy heavy

You got bigger and heavier tires don't ya? Those kill tow capacity in multiples, also you haven't encountered a real grade while pulling a load. At the very minimum you'd need a pretty big trans cooler, cause you aint ever gonna get the torque converter to lock unless your going perfectly flat at 55mph or downhill.

I didn't know bigger tires killed towing capacity. By how much?

The Civic and the E320 I towed well pushed the towing limit. I took the Civic over the Altamont Pass and I didn't have much issue.

 

Would this affect towing my enclosed trailer, at all?

Instead of picturing tires completely round, picture them instead like a rod going from hub to the end of the tread, bigger tires, bigger lever. That's why bigger tires murder power and people regear.
