@Sperrunner you're an AC Expert right? ours decided to stop working at some point last night.

It's blown a fuse in the past so I checked those first and it has continuity. There's no frost or condensation on the insulated hard line which was another issue we've had in the past (happend when I tried using Merv 13 filters because I have awful allergies).

Anything obvious I should check next?
The furnace fan runs like it should but the squirrel cage outside does nothing

The unit was installed in November of 2019 so it's not super old by any means and I change the filter every 3 months like clockwork

I always liked how those 90 series Prados looked. I think they’re basically a 3rd gen 4Runner underneath though.

A guy popped up around here asking if he should buy a 5VZ 4x4. Though, I don't know how it looked or what happened.

The Tundra climbed up trails like a billy goat in 4lo. My son said, well yeah, because it's 1,000 lbs lighter. It is easier to handle in the mountains due to the weight difference.
If it had a transfer case like the 80 and 100 series, that can be regeared in multiple combinations, it would be the perfect truck.

When you try to turn it on does it hum outside like it wants to start or does it do nothing at all. it is very common for the capacitor to go out and then you’re outside unit wont work

Are on a call for cooling. Does your contactor pull in outside? If not, you might have a bad thermostat or bad wiring or bad contactor. Pretty easy to check if you are familiar with them, voltmeter

It's humming outside like it wants to start but the fan isn't spinning. Does that check out for a bad capacitor?
    IMG_20250601_133216.jpg
I assume there's a correct way to discharge the capacitor that doesn't involve me getting sparked.

Duncan here in VA gets LHD Prados in every now and again. They had a 2 door 90, LHD auto with 5vz in late April I tried to buy but it went fast.
They get a lot of blue ones for whatever reason

Never worked on anything AC-related. Good info to know though as it reminds me of exactly what my bandsaw was doing.

You hear a hum from power going to the motor, but the motor never spun and that was easy to figure out. Seems a home's AC system can be pretty basic huh?

when ours went out earlier this year we had to replace the fan motor (and compressor).

My dad recommended manually spinning the fan and then flipping thermostat on to see if that would be enough to get it going and it worked so at least we have AC again for the moment.

I think that's another nail in the coffin for the capacitor not functioning properly

That's how I found out it was my starting capacitor - I moved the pulley to spin the motor and it fired up.

Buuuuut, AC units are pulling way more current so :bananadead:

Yeah that's why I wanted to make sure to remove the capacitor in a correct /safe manner.
All though a trip to the ER is still cheaper than having that HVAC guys come out and take a look

There were a few little 2-door Land Cruisers (little short wheelbase) models that looked more like a Samurai at the Ramble this weekend. I see variations of LCs show up at that event that I didn't know existed.

Yeah sounds like a bad capacitor. If you wanna discharge a capacitor just grab a screwdriver and touch the leads on the top together and they will be discharged
