My coworker is looking to get rid of a white 2008 BMW 335xi 6 speed manual with 120K. It last ran in 2024 and hasn't moved since. He said he doesn't want to deal with it anymore and will just sign the car over to me.

Car is rust free with a dented in rear bumper and dent on one of the body lines, but nothing else really cosmetically. Might let it pass since I know little to nothing about BMWs.

 

Pulled the radiator for a leak and look what decided to show up in the coolant

Those are a ton of fun. But also a ton of work if the engine hasn't been kept up on. They have lots of common problems. And unfortunately the big one is the fuel injectors, which are both a pain in the ass change and expensive.

 

I might skip on it even for free minus the presumptive value for registration. I know the only reason it won't start is the battery but even the battery requires calibration, which I think can just be down with BimmerLink or a similar phone application since I have a decent OBD2 bluetooth tool. I think I'm just blinded by all the BMW, Mercedes, and Porsches flying past me in Germany.

The car was purchased in Germany as a USDM spec intended to be sold to service members. My coworker kept up with the bare minimum from when he bought it used with 50K and on. And at some point in Germany he put his foot to the floor on the autobahn. Something happened and he said the car seemed to have lost power. He just drove it as a basic transportation from that point forward. He moved to Greece and had trouble finding a mechanic and then moved here and REALLY had problems finding a European car specialist.
