"Aol is shutting down its dial-up service after 34 years," is a headline I didn't know could even exist. Wonder how many customers are still using it.

yeah me too, but someone pointed out this happened around the time that composite sticks were becoming more common over the traditional wooden ones, giving more players the ability to fire 80+mph shots on a regular basis that could deflect up into the stands more frequently.

Prior to that you only really had to worry about a few guys that could shatter the plexiglass with their shot using a solid wood stick like Al McGinnis or Bobby Hull lol.

never forget the time that McGinnis nearly decapitated Kelly Hrudey, imagine if that one had deflected up into the stands.

McGinnis had the hardest shot for almost 2 decades. Over 108mph and I think it was with a wood stick.

I've only used mine once and it seemed fine. Now that's all I'm going to think about when using it.

This statement brings back trauma from trying to get on the internet back in the day. Funny thing, I still have an AOL email address. I use it just for junk.

These guys are morons, and a big reason why trails get closed (always the SXS people)

    Screenshot_20250811_105856_Facebook.jpg

Tons of people have driven those trails, myself included, and there are multiple markers and trails you can tell are meant for vehicles

They ended up going down a steep hiking trail

How do they expect to be recovered on a steep narrow hiking trail that vehicles are forbidden on. They're gonna have to suck it up and call the forest service to at least coordinate something officially. I wouldn't want to risk my ass recovering them.

Yeah I started looking at the comments afterward and everyone is either bashing them, or talking about the lack of vehicle access

Yeah this is similar to what happened with that buddy of mine that got his FJ submerged in a flooded watershed basin behind a local dam. Completely restricted area to vehicles, hiking only and the area he was in was off limits even on foot. He asked me to follow the same path he took in my truck to see if I could pull him out.

As soon as I realized where his truck was I said no fucking way am I going to do that lol. We need to call the city and figure this out. He got lucky this all happened right as covid was becoming a huge issue, lockdowns and quarantine happened a few days later iirc. The city never followed up with him with any fines or anything.

them being on a steep hiking trail that could be real tricky, at least if it's how I picture it to be. Probably need to carve in a new path to get to them if there's no way they can just retrace their ride back out.

Bald is super easy to do so I don't even get the big deal of going up there with an SXS

There are some major rocks/obstacles but you'll see the rigs with 40s n tons doing those

Easily bypassed with any rig though, and I can't see an SXS being out there to do those obstacles

The dude did post a super shakey, stupidly spinning video footage of where he was (someone asked for pics) but in a quick glimpse its easy to see it's pretty steep and narrow
