Course, the results are the same

The bit will chatter like hell (maybe even bounce dangerously) and it doesn't help the bit being soft

What you're suggesting is dangerous

Wonder if you could design a little jig for a freehand plasma cutter that would constrain it to rotate perfectly around the hole to chamfer it

With how quickly plasma gets rid of material, my hand would have to move like a robot to ensure minimal clean up afterward

It's only until recently that you could find such a feature on more readily accessible gear (hence my $30k comment)

It was much more common but on your HD plasma setups found on heavy industrial tables

Plasma cutter alone would set you back over $40k, you'd need 3 phase, and the table is another +$100k

    https://youtu.be/WhVO4xF3FLQ?si=FvFjDkPiNAM8L6m6

I've already stepped up to an industrial table just months ago, but the biggest upgrade for me would be a more powerful plasma cutter (if I made any changes to anything)

One of y'all need to buy a CNC mill.

I'd love a new punch made of 4140 tool steel :burp:

Real talk, I wouldn't even know what the "better collet" system to choose

Appropriate spindle speeds/torque needed for specific material

Then the CAM itself incorporating tool changes (and what proper tooling to use for certain cuts, etc)

Ah I meant like a more manageable setup, not a big ass HAAS

    Something between a Langmuir MR1 to a Shariff DMC2

One is a stand-alone while the other is a benchtop style but both are very manageable in terms of footprint

I've been eyeballing the DMC2 a lot but not looking forward to the many hours putting it together

You can save something like $2k just buying it unassembled so I'm waiting for a buddy to put his together (his just arrived 2-3 weeks ago)

This way I can see what needs to be changed or upgraded during initial assembly

I figured you were when you stated that, which realistically would be badass to own

The smaller setups are just cheaper (in general), offer CNC capability with the downsides being less power and less working area

    That and cheaper components

However, even though the DMC2 is smaller, it has better specs on it compared to the MR1 as a lot of people are upgrading many components in their MR1

I've got a full-beans refrigerator-sized Vidmar. The bottom drawers store extra CVs and shocks/coilovers no problem. One drawer is loaded with extra (sacrificial) sockets and wrenches that I picked up cheap over time. A few are random parts. I want one with deeper drawers to store diffs in lol.

They way a few hundred pounds empty (hard to load in the truck even with all drawers removed), I'm afraid to know what mine weighs full.

The trick is, if someone lists it as Vidmar, Lista, Rousseau, etc, they probably know what they have and what it's worth--usually $800 and up. To get one cheap, you need to look for people who list them as "tool chest" or something generic like that.

If you're feeling like spending money there's a reseller in Broomfield that always has stuff listed in Marketplace for "fair" prices.
