Not SF — My hometown of Hayward, California has a border on the San Francisco Bay. Most of it is salt flats or marshland. My subdivision is built on reclaimed salt flats adjacent to a wildlife preserve.

I've wheeled on a dry salt lake bed before (twice now actually)...was about as bad as being in Pismo was for the raw metal spots on my sliders. Anything metal and raw/exposed gets rusted. Frame looks good though. I actually have two spots on my rear axle on either side of the diff (near where the u-bolts hold on) that looks like surface rust, don't really understand how that happened but everything else looks good as new.

Meanwhile, I just saw that my toyota dealer has about 12 frames piled up out back.

yeah daily driving in road salt is a lot different than being on a salty surface a few times a year, plus you guys have a wetter climate so moisture hangs around a lot longer. Not that you need me to tell you that lol. As much as I loathe the heat here in the southwest, it's good for our trucks (until summer hits and it's 115 degrees out and the AC won't even work)

But that's enough talk about summer...winter is here and I aim to enjoy it as much as I can since we only get a few months of it. Mountains have snow and we made it up there to do a trail this weekend. Got a few awesome photos from @SoCalTacoTruck ...once I have more of the actual trail I'll probably do a little trip report. And the best part, no salt on the roads up there (yet)

by the way, I fucking hate mud. Since I trimmed my pinch weld back a ton I'm getting mud up inside my door jambs. Gonna have to remedy that somehow.

Also learned why you see so many bro-verlanders turning their snorkel heads backwards on the trail...apparently it does do something productive. Got a snorkel full of mud once or twice hitting the deep puddles pretty fast and my air filter needs to be changed out now lol

Yup, that's what mines been doing for the last 40k or so since the clutch was new...til this week when it started grinding/growling between shifts

turns out you can adjust the free play in the pedal, so if the sound goes away when you put even the slightest pressure on it you should check that adjustment and maybe save your TOB

what the f....are you kidding me, we can potentially fix this? I was told that it was just one of those Toyota things we have to live with and that an upgraded clutch assembly is the only way to fix it.

yeah, mine stops chirping the second you put any pressure at all on the clutch pedal. So I need to adjust the pedal free play then? I'll have to look up a write up on that

Well if we ever wheel together you'll have a fellow chirper right there with you, lol. Mine can get really loud sometimes.

The first time I got my clutch replaced (for this exact reason actually) the noise went away for maybe 10k miles but came back, so I've just lived with it. But in the back of my mind I'm always afraid of having the TOB fail completely and punching a hole through the bell housing or something. That would really suck to have happen on a trail. But that kind of failure I've only really ever heard happen on cars that put out a lot more power or highly modified super/turbo charged rigs that haven't beefed up the clutch assembly.

hence one more reason why I don't like to bounce the rev limiter or go over 3.5k between shifts if I can help it really.

It took me 4 hours to clean my truck, and there is still mud caked everywhere haha. Just waiting for the next rain to hit a puddle so it can clean my underside lol

How much should I expect to pay to get the screen and charging port changed on a iPhone 5

Its a huge issue on the 2nd gens. Toyota put out a TSB, but it shouldve been a recall as the issue comes back. Of all the people on here who have the problem, Ive yet to read of one failing completely. Tranny shop told us not to worry about it until you hear the chirp with the clutch engaged.

dude yeah, I feel your pain. I trimmed my pinch weld back quite a bit for my 33s and now I'm apparently getting mud inside the door jambs (only thing stopping it from getting into the cab is the weatherstripping). Plus I had my window down for the first few puddles and got mud in the truck as well, lol

I haven't heard of failures like that but I've heard they can seize and make shifting difficult/impossible lol

Any decent DSLR will take good photos, its the glass (lenses) that you need to invest good money in and then practice editing in post-production software like Lightroom/Photoshop. Don't need to spend a ton on a high end, full frame DSLR unless you're shooting professionally and need that kind of resolution for different kinds of media. Or, if you're a hobbyist with a well-trained eye and can spot the differences...but most can't. What most people see is the end result of a well-taken photo by someone with a good eye for composition with good glass and some editing skills. The technicalities of the actual camera usually matter very little for most.

yeah I remember URD came out with a TOB fix for 2nd gens for awhile, but I heard recently that it's no longer offered because it didn't always fix the issue or something like that.
