I’d make it 400 feet until I need a new transmission.

I have a 3RZ I4, and you have the 5VZ v6. There is a very profound difference in the towing capabilities of both these trucks. (3,500 v. 5,500 lbs. Towing Capacity) Additionally, Manual versus Automatic transmissions make that much of a difference.

You also have a v6. I don't care what the 22RE people are towing, I care about what Toyota sets forth what the mandated towing capacity is on my own truck.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I know just giving you shit, i didn’t like towing it with the v6.

I don’t think you’re wrong not wanting to toe with the 4.
    He doesn’t get it

Like I said before, I could care less what those people do. That is A. Stupid, because the brakes and drivetrain on those trucks are not meant to handle that capacity and B. Idiotic, because you are putting other people's lives in danger by creating a dangerous situation for others on the road.

I'll say it again. Just because other people do it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

He really doesn't. I'm happy to follow what the mandated towing capacities are because I don't want to put my life, or other people's lives in danger by creating a dangerous situation by towing over the capacity in a truck that cannot stop.

FWIW if you get pulled over and inspected you can get a big DOT fine for towing over your vehicle's capacity and they may impound your truck trailer.

That's the primary difference between most modern 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Same engine, frame, etc. The one ton is taxed higher for its "bigger" towing/hauling capacity even though they are technically the same

Why would you argue that the 4 Cyl can tow over the legal capacity fine, when it's clearly a safety hazard and shorten the life of your drivetrain?

Really? You're still arguing about this? Tacomas are not tow vehicles. The 4 Cylinder even less so. If you tow over the capacity, you will damage your transmission and cause unnecessary wear to your engine. That is a fact. Excessive heat damages the drivetrain.

    Really, man?

Believe whatever you want. Towing over the capacity is stupid and you're stupid for defending it.

The fact that you continue to argue about this is something I will never understand.

"My frame is rusted out but it still works! That means I'm good to keep driving it."
