There is a lake near me full of turtles. Was thinking of tossing him in there

Ya not a good way for anything to go. I had hoped he got picked up by a bird or something and at least put toward some good use as turtle food for another critter, but nope.

I had a friend too that said he'd take it which if I recall was one of the reasons I went over that day, to get the turtle. But...I was too late lol.

That would be a much more humane thing to do lol. I dunno how well it would fare in the long or short run being he was in captivity his while life, but at least there's a chance I guess. Better than drying up on a hot sidewalk

Well i feed him live fish so i would assume he can hunt. And he is a large turtle, bigger then most ive seen up there. I think he would fair well on his own

Only if it's a native species. Someone released snake heads in a nearby pond here luckily the pond was locked down by dnr

Is it a turtle that is native to the area? If not, it may be illegal to release him to the wild. Non-native animals can become nuisance problems pretty quick.

Donate the turtle to a local preschool or elementary school... Might take some calling but as long as its in good health, i'm sure you can find a good home for it.

If you have never dressed a turtle for turtle soup, prepare to have your mind blown. They can live for hours with no head. Snapping turtles are nasty to clean. Makes great soup though.
