Well he has until the Summer to make up his mind. I'm not paying Vermont any more money to keep this registered.

I'm scrapping the thing if it doesn't work out.

 

Might be able to part out some bits and pieces of the drivetrain and at least make your $600 back

I'm in about $1,200+ with the Vermont reg, and parts I planned to install in it (roll pan, carpet, seats, new cluster, oil test and oil, etc)

I knew when I bought this truck what I was getting into. I don't regret a single thing. Owning this thing has been a blast. I'd keep the damn thing if Cali didn't want so much backtax on it.

 

My front cat is rattling on the inside. Fuck. Me.

I don't know what the fuck is killing my cats, I haven't been running lean since I replaced the OEM cats about a year and a half ago. Wonder if maybe I'm running too rich and that's what's killing it.

Not throwing a code so I'm not going to worry about it just yet. Noticed it yesterday when I was changing the trans oil, knocked on the cat with a mallet and you can hear material bouncing around inside. But I need to get to the bottom of why this is happening.

 

Maybe I'll swap the 5VZ into my truck.

 

Ah my cats make that noise too, something rattling inside. They're still my stock ones though & still working. I don't worry about it, well I just choose to ignore it. Lol

 

If I part out the 5-Lug, Toyota of Sacramento installed new OEM cats in 2017.

huh, good to know lol. To be honest I've never tried the mallet test before, but from what I've read if you can hear material rattling inside of them then that means they're damaged at the very least. I guess I'll just ignore it too until I can't.

 

You won't convert your truck to 4WD.

True that, I assume pieces broke off & that's what rattling but really I don't know. I've never tried hitting them with a mallet though. I really only notice it when I'm sitting in a drive-though.

 

Yeah I probably won't, I don't really care. I'd probably go LT instead of 4WD.

yeah I got CARB approved Magnaflows put in about a year and a half ago because the front one was toast.

 

Maybe call Magnaflow and explain the situation? On the off-chance that it is defective, you could get new ones.

 

Nah, he's actually planning on it & itching to do it. Me, it's not even on my list to do. Not until I get a new vehicle. Maybe someday.
