Do you wetsand the primer coat with 400? I’ve always done that followed by base coat.

This was a raw steel desk frame, nothing special. I like the look of steel in the raw, so clear is all it got to prevent rust.0216191557.jpg
As for primer and wetsanding, at school we laid a coat of primer, let dry, then spritzed with yellow spray paint from a rattle can, not going for coverage, just dots of paint all over. Wetsand with 600 grit until the yellow spray paint is gone, then repeat at least 4 times.

Interesting with the yellow spray paint. Do you sand at all in between base coats or clear?

Yeah the yellow just let us know if we missed any spots. As for the other sanding I dont believe we did but its been so long since i did autobody so i cant remember exactly. Base coats went light, medium, medium-heavy, cant remember if we sanded those. All I remember about the clear was it went on in like 2 heavy coats. Cant recall if we sanded those or not before final polish/buff. All this talk has me wondering if my I-Car account is still active lol.

Thanks. I just never knew if you were supposed to sand in between base and clear. I usually just go straight to clear after base.

Wetsanded the filler primer to get those imperfections. Base coat is going on now.

    Bondo really is magical stuff.

base goes on in light overlapping coats. you can criss cross or whatever pattern you like jut to fill it in. 2-3 good light to medium coats will cover except for some colors. let it flash for about a half hour, wipe it with a tack rag, and apply at least 2 good coats of clear. If you plan on cutting and rubbing perhaps 3-4 coats

I would do it again. Older dogs have plenty of love left to give even if they need extra attention.
