The cleaning lady just came in, someone to talk to in real life! If only she spoke English or I spoke Spanish...

and then I realized just how ridiculous the frame rub was with a stock tire size. I mean c'mon, rubbing at full lock with 265/70s?!? Yeah, no thx - pass. Dumped those POS wheels and will never go back. I can't even give those 2nd Gen OR wheels away. A 5 set with TRD centerpieces trimmed to fit and they have been sitting on CL for over a month. I even through them out for 120 bones and nobody wants em... Can't remember who but someone down in SJ had them in the NorCal thread for 100 bucks - no takers. Another has 4 of them listed for some craft beer - no takers.

Hell, I'm even debating going to 1st gen spares all around. Even over the 4Runner star wheels. Those 4Runner stars may just end up on CL as well.

At one point we had photos printed of outside landscapes and taped on the walls around us, which is pretty sad actually lol.

Luckily the door to outside is just down the hallway and we can take a break pretty much whenever we aren't busy, so I can't complain much.

where is the library? I do know some Spanish...like bare bones, enough to allow me to survive two weeks in Nicaragua a few years ago (barely).

Google translate is your friend... does it on the fly!

EDIT: a friend of mine is an elevator tech. He had to train the staff on a new build how to do the PMs and such... and noone spoke English (because why would you, in America??). Whipped out Google Translate and was able to let the robot do the work, as he spoke. He was even able to field questions- verbally-submitted.

All except the last part lol, I was with there with my ex. She was way better at speaking Spanish than I was so she's probably the sole reason we survived that trip, there were a few genuinely sketchy moments in some of the smaller villages we visited. Then I got food poisoning a few days before we were supposed to leave, my god that was hell.

I remember being on the beach somewhere around San Juan Del Sur, puking my brains out and seeing a group of chickens and pigs walking along the beach like it was nothing. I thought I had started hallucinating but in Nicaragua it's pretty common to see farm animals on the beach.

When I was in Mexico, we went on a deep sea fishing trip. I was the only one on the boat who could speak any lick of Spanish. Fish weren’t biting and one of us got sick, so we decided to head back.

Although we had one problem, the captains didn’t speak any English. I couldn’t picture in my head how I was supposed to tell them to go back.

Then I realized my Spanish II teacher made us memorize this song called “Un Velero Llamado Libertad” which, if translated, is a song about a man leaving on a boat and then regretting his decision and returning on his boat. Keep this in mind.

I had that “oh shit” moment and never realized memorizing that song would come in handy. I start singing the song in my head and then I’m like “Velero Regressar a Porte” and they totally understood me.

When I was in the Philippines I brushed my teeth with bottled water. Wasn’t going to risk it.

I drank room temperature Coke. I drank room temperature bottled water.

After the first week I was sick of drinking lukewarm Coke, so I decided whatever ailment or sickness I get from the melted ice would be worth it.

    Never got sick.

I was really good about not drinking the water, we always bought bottled water and used it to brush our teeth, even. What got me was eating a side salad with one of the dishes we got, since the lettuce is washed in their water. My ex ate the same thing though and was fine, I just rolled the dice and got unlucky. But man I thought I was going to die at one point, I've gotten food poisoning before but never that bad. And having to puke/crap your brains out every 5 minutes while on an international flight for 6 hours is also no fun

I ate at a sketchy McDonalds right before my international flight to London.

Pro Tip: Don’t eat McDonalds before an international flight to London. That was a really shitty 10 hours.

You're lucky they let you on the plane.

I had bad food poisoning once, while working on the USS Kearsarge in the mid 90s. I was a Tech-rep doing work in Radio Central and other spaces throughout the ship, running large cables everywhere. Every 5 minutes or so I'd have to run to the head - the only one I knew where it was, had been in 40-man berthing several compartments away. BARELY made it, several times. I am sure I probably passed 15 suitable facilities, but didn't know the ship well enough. My lead tech was not pleased with my absences.

    Better question-

Where does one find a non-sketchy-looking McDonalds?

lol yeah, food poisoning is one of those things that you can't fully comprehend unless you've had it. And once you do, you always have sympathy for others that have it...even if my worst enemy told me he had food poisoning I'd be like 'damn, sorry dude...that sucks. I fucking hate you but, that sucks'.

As for the plane ride, luckily this was on day 3 of being sick and usually food poisoning only lasts a couple of days. Mine was so bad I had symptoms for close to 5 days but by day 3 I could somewhat manage it. I took a handful (literally) of anti-diarrhea pills before going to the airport which helped some.

Very much so. It’s my favorite city in Europe.

Amsterdam and Greece is worth seeing too. Islands of Capri and Sorrento in Italy are beautiful.

    Avoid Paris. Paris is trash.
