Noice, a reminder for me to always start with check the simple things every time first, even if something looks all jacked up and draws my attention. Start with the basics first

I can't usually do that with customers appliances, as much as I'd like to sometimes

Reminds me one time I'm troubleshooting an electric dryer that dies in middle of cycle and then 10-20 minutes later it starts back up and right at where it left off! I was like wtf??? Was a newer GE. I'm testing and checking EVERYTHING thinking what the hell is killing one leg of the circuit, etc.
After an hour straight I check for 240VAC at wall.... M Effer was losing a leg of 120 somewhere behind wall. Prolly in the breaker but it would cool off and get its 240 again. M Effer.

Tri Tip is just a fancy west coast name for a triangular cut of the bottom sirloin. You can probably get a butcher in your area to cut you one

I had that happen to my water heater shortly after I purchased my house. It worked great for about 6 months then it started having times when it just wasn't hot. Warm but not hot. Then it would go back to hot.

I checked the serial number and it was only 3 years old. I checked main power at the heater. It had 240v coming in. I checked continuity on both elements. They checked out fine. I tested the thermostat and it also checked out fine.

I called Bradford White and explained the situation. The tech said they have seen thermostats test out OK but actually they aren't. A few days later I get a new thermostat in the mail. I put it in and the heater works for a few days. My wife calls to tell me it's acting up again. As soon as I get home I pull out the multimeter and check main power again. 120v. WTF? I check it at element 1. 120v. I check it at element 2. 120v. I check it at the thermostat. 120v. I go outside and flip the breaker on and off. I'm still getting 120v.

I follow the electrical conduit to a junction box on the wall in the garage. I open up that junction box and almost shit. The wiring from the panel to the junction is copper. The wiring from the junction to the heater is aluminum. There's a special wire nut that needs to be used in this situation because of the different rates of expansion and contraction of dissimilar metals. Needless to say, the dipshit that wired it did not use them. One of the nuts was melted but still recognizable as a wire nut. The other was gone. Not only was the plastic part of the nut gone but the sleeve was also gone. Burnt to oblivion from years of arcing. I'm lucky that junction box wasn't in a wall or the whole house probably would have gone up.

I fixed it and called the previous homeowner to find out who he used as his electrician. He must have heard the rage in my voice because he wouldn't tell me. lol

I was trouble shooting a fridge once that was tripping a 30amp break. It would run for awhile then out of no where it trips and you couldn’t reset it for like 30 min.

Two techs were out me and one changed the the control board then the other orders a compressor. I get there and im like there is no way this fridge call pull 30 amps. So i plug it in and it’s running for 20 mines no problem and the amp draw was good. So im like wtf is tripping this. I go and force it into defrost and book kills the power. And keeps the breaker tripped till i force it out. Come out find out the they had just remodeled the kitchen and put everything on GFCI breakers. So when defrost would happen a little power would hit the ground then trip the breaker.

Told the dude he gotta call his contractor to fix it. He was mad because it took so long to figure out and that because the house had to be built to code his appliances didn’t work
