    see the thing that seriously bugs me is toyota has the 3.5 v6. that fuckers an under appreciated gem of an engine. Hell lotus uses it and gets 400hp out of it with a stock block. just some valve work and a blower

    Loved driving my dad's Frontier back when I was 18 or so, it was an 02 or an 03 v6 iirc.

    the 3.5 is great n/a for a car. my avalon with a tune and cams can easily hit 320 hp. i have a r9k tune and with stock everything just straight pipes it makes power all the way up to 7300 rpm

    So what makes all the turd genners complain about it then? I haven't driven one so I can't comment. Is it because of the auto trans? Or lack of low end torque?

    its not a engine well suited to a truck. it was originally designed for the 3rd gen avalon. 05 was the first year. its all about mid range and top end power. the newer direct injected version is still the same. just new heads and more power.

    a direct injection dual vvti 4.0 would of been the best. but for gas mileage they didnt do it

    the non DI 3.5 is a solid engine. 300k on it easy easily achieved. its biggest issues are timing cover leaks (not super common.. but its not uncommon), cam gear issues on 05-07 engines (updated camshaft and gears seems to have fixed that for good), VVTI lines blowing out (recall, repaired line and 09+ has metal line that wont blow). water pumps can fail on them.. but not too hard to replace... its a pretty soild engine.
