@cruiserguy, how the heck do i take the spare tire out?
i found the tool kit under the back jump seat and was trying to piece them together but nothing fit into the hole between bumper and tailgate? i thought that is where you stick it into and turn and twist and it comes down to the ground?

I'm not positive if they are all the same between the body styles of first gen, lemme check on it and I'll get back. Or if someone else knows in meantime as well. But the rods connect and a hook or t end or similar slides through that opening in bumper all the way to this little crank. Do you have similar?

 

How have you made it this far in life?

 

They have special lock actuators for it

The truck I was working on is a friends truck. The guy is a way better mechanic (and painter and welder and...) than I am but my labor is cheaper than his time.

 

Put the hook side in the turn part. Then slide the rod through the hole.

 

Does this show anything that could help?

yes, that is exactly what i was doing
i just could not find the hole! i had the 2 pieces screwed together but would not fit into anything

 

I've done quite a few. Some people use actuators which is basically a small electric motor that turns and it's got a gear on it. The gear rides up and down a ladder or step looking piece, which moves whatever you want moved. Some people use solenoids. Solenoids shafts move by magnetics. Each system has it's own advantages, depends on the car, the design of the latch/strengthed required, and the condition of all the parts. 'I've seen actual starter solenoids converted into door pop solenoids. Idk, not my style, but getting paid to put them in was my style. Lol

 

Just slide half through the hole then connect it that way

i have only had 1 flat in over 120k miles is how, but i was in my driveway when it was flat and had my dad's ancient hydraulic floor jack to use
