I’m pretty sure that middle layer of copper or bronze or whatever it is made a bunch of smoke. We had a fan and only could go like a 1/2” before we’d have to pause and blow out all the smoke. Cleaned out the reservoir with acetone and a couple cans of brake clean before welding it so I’m pretty sure no fluid was left.

    maybe - Idk

    damn, good info, thanks.

AFAIK you're the only one who's done a Taco one. Theres a ton of info on Pirate for the older toys and it seems that they were just mild steel

Could be, it would almost have to be since we were nowhere near the inside when we welded that patch over the old hole.

Leaks? What’s that. Tundras bone dry, Tacoma’s got no oil at all in it. Avalon’s dry. Corolla has a seep from the head gasket.

Lol. The 3.4 is good for the valve covers. That’s the only thing I ever had to fix leak wise. Oh and the rotted out power steering lines.

Clean the entire thing spotless with heat and degreaser and then add dye to the oil. Helps see where it comes from. Did that with the LC when I first got it. Nailed it down until the front and rear mains started leaking, can't deal with those until I can pull the engine.

You could deal with the rear main by just pulling the tranny and bell housing. I've got a small rear main leak on my 3.4 that I need to address but that means pulling the crawlbox as well in my case. That thing wasn't easy to get in. lol

Start from the valve covers down and get a flashlight and do it at night when you have a single source of light. There’s only so many places it will develop leaks - valve covers, front and rear seals, oil cooler, and possibly heads.

If it’s a huge mess and you can’t tell at night with a flashlight, start from a clean slate - I’ve degreased a bunch of sh!t on my truck and a bottle of 99 cent store degreaser and a piping hot spray bottle of water along with an assortments of toothbrushes, bottle brushes, and a pick tool - with those you can get anything clean!
