Nominal use for 1/2 inch conduit is a single strand of Romex, two is pushing it, and three is nearly too much.

Eh, with runs like that you couldve easily bought some 1" to replace it with.

Also, forgive my ignorance of residential codes, but if its going through conduit, does it need to be sheathed romex? Couldve pulled a bunch of 12 ga wire by itself much easier.

Huh. I always thought of you as our resident old fart. Guess that pic disproves my theory.

at least you only have a 20 cent spread on those
its like 50 cent spread here from 87 to 91, it makes me mad my truck likes the good stuff!

my truck did not know what it was getting in Milwaukee
found a BP that had 93 octane so i juiced the betch up :)

It’s a bit of a gray area, I would’ve much preferred THHN machine wire and some say it’s okay, some say it’s not. It’s even a gray area if you can remove the outer sheathing from Romex and used only the inner wires through conduit.

I really hate solid core wire, it’s a real bitch to work with.

I originally wanted to run 3/4 conduit, but all our fixtures used 1/2 NPT bungs and it was simpler to just use 1/2 conduit for the whole system. That run of conduit is the only place I have more than 1 wire running through it.

Are you putting 91 in your truck that only needs 87?

its a placebo, it likes the 91 better for some reason it seems to drag on 87 sometimes
    i like it peppy :)

Yeah Im glad I dont have to deal with solid core wire in the industrial field. Ive seen rubber sheathed aluminum wire wrapped in cloth though at some super old facilities. That was, um, interesting to work with.

Im gonna have to dig deeper into this code stuff regarding emt in the home. Ive got some shop lights running off extension cords secured to the ceiling in the garage. Id like to bend up some emt and pull 14 ga wire someday.

Some older vehicles seem to run better with higher octane. The 92 suffers from pinging due to premature fuel detonation and the high octane gas makes the issue much more tolerable.

Generally don’t need to run conduit unless it’s outdoors or it’s not running through the studs in a new construction building. I just stapled my shop lights to the ceiling and am t-ing it off the existing bulb fixture in the center. I want to run conduit for it one day.

I’ve seen people run conduit and run it through the studs which is completely unnecessary. That’s like wearing two condoms.

If that's true then you might need to do a tune up or something, should run just fine on 87 but if you're getting some knocking on regular it's something to be looked into.

Only time these trucks should need 91 is if you're supercharged/turbo'ed

Yeah I know what I have is totally safe. But it looks ghetto. If I owned the house, it would be rigid emt from day 1. Not the flexy stuff, as that also looks trashy. Like whoever did it was too scared to try a few bends on the rigid stuff. And all it would be is a few 90 degree bends and an offset going into the switch box. Easy to do.

it has always seemed to knock 'occasionally' since i got it on less than 91, or its all in my head which is probably true
i just don't care for ethanol is most likely why and the 91 has no ethanol here
