I don't study up much on aluminum but damn, I didn't know those skids came in 1/4" thick. I would still take 3/16" steel over thicker aluminum though.

My truck being its a 5lug is set up differently too. So i can go one flat solid plate from bumper to trans, if that makes a difference

that would be gnarly and a huge pain to take on/off for maintenance lol. A transmission skid is awkward enough let alone one giant skid going from bumper to the end of the trans

300 pages since I last posted. Guess things do move fast in here. :anonymous:

From an uneducated standpoint I always felt the weight savings with aluminum never really had a benefit over the durability of steel. Plus the price difference seems absurd to me. I'd just go steel personally.

I've been contemplating getting skids from the guy on here. 22rethan I think is his screen name. Seems like he makes a nice product. Fair price too.

yeah that'd be better than trying to use a normal floor jack anyway. My driveway isn't even and has gravel strip going down the center so I just imagine it being a huge pain in my book

Well, being a 5 lug, you're probably better off chroming it, and throwing some wire wheels and ball joint spacers on it...

Best to let the men have their 4x4s...

One solid plate of aluminum will be hard. Especially if you have bends in it. Depending on the alloy, Alu doesn't like to be bent, the higher the grade the harder it is to bend (6061 doesn't like it at all), and (generally) all aluminum needs to be heat treated to regain its strength, after bending (using heat) and welding (ideally).

Aluminum is just straight up harder to work with.
