Oh they definitely click lol. On the trail in 4wd if I make a sharp turn they sometimes click pretty bad. Been doing that for a long time, I figure one or both is on it's way out. I carry 2 CV axle spares on the trail for that reason. Would that account for clunking in 2wd?

if the birfield is pitted enough, ive heard them faintly click when turning. even though theyre not engaged. the only ones that wouldnt make noise are axles that have manual hubs

The CV axle click in 4wd is like a sharp click sound but the noise I'm hearing in 2wd is more of a dull 'pop pop pop'...eventually I'll do my LCA bushings and hopefully that takes care of it.

That's a good idea, I have one at work I can borrow. Hell I could probably take it, it's been collecting dust for the 4+ years I've worked there

So has the $20K digital Hasselblad camera we have...hm

That can mean failure or just that they havent locked in yet, you might have to move the truck around to get them all in place

I've always kind of wondered how that would help because you might be able to hear the sound but the video won't exactly pinpoint where it's coming from, but I guess if the video shows some abnormal movement somewhere then that would help narrow it down

if your getting a noticeable noise you should be able to see something shifting abnormally in the suspension. does it make that noise sitting still and turning the wheel?

Nope. Tried that today in the parking lot at work. Only does it when moving. Suspension then or bushings?

bushing would be my guess if it wasnt the axle. suspension should do it anytime even sitting. bushing can when moving because it has a force pushing against it unlike when its sitting

Makes sense, thanks for the help. I know I have a bad LCA bushing on the drivers side, when I was under it doing my LBJ last month I could move the arm up/down a bit and it makes a pretty bad creaking noise. Plus it looks a little torn from what little of it I can see. I'll tackle that one first...eventually.

hmm heres a test you can try with a helper or a camera. get the truck up to 3-5 mph and hit the brakes moderatly hard. if the wheel appears to shift back then your bushing is shot.

Time to bust out the powerprobe and manually apply power to the motors and look for sticky spots or dead spots

Low key? Yeah. I need more room in my truck and a 2nd gen would have allowed me to buy a 4x4 double cab with a manual trans...couldn't get that with the 1st gen. So yeah sometimes I wish I had, but it wasn't in the budget when I was looking.
