Lot of folks believe that was the epitome of the Land Cruiser. Solid live axles front and rear, coil springs all 4 corners, option of lockers front rear for factory, bug ol inline 6, bus transmission, etc etc
Off road capability in stock form and reliability and durability for dayzzzzz

i was hoping to see some other 1st gen tacos at this place but sadly i was disappointed there was a white 2nd gen 4dr and that was it

Speed was definitely not an important factor in the design. Toyota knows excessive speed capability on a vehicle like Land Cruiser has little real world benefit on road ways with limits and in countries with dirt road interstate systems

 

i did see a silver 1st gen stepside 2wd (5 lug?) on the highway earlier this week, it looked ok for its age

i just see WAY TOO many later 1st gens around here, early 2000s, occasionally see a 98-00 year those are easy to spot if i get a front view

 

he said it doesn't go much more than 50 mph i think he said, so he stays off the freeway with it, sticks to the back highways to make it across the river
