haha thanks, the little basket that comes with the Avid bed rack is nice. Although about the only thing it's good for is putting my traction boards in it ($99 ebay Maxtrax knockoffs btw, they work great too)....since the basket depth isn't very deep.
Before I got the traction boards I would put our folding camping table in there and secure it to the rack with zip ties. Found out the hard way once on a trail that if you don't zip tie it, that shit will fly out right quick.

A shelf would be real convenient since the area right below the RTT is wasted space.

I need to learn how to weld :frusty:

I'm trying to...was going to sign up for night classes at the community college but unfortunately I was too late and they were full (semester started today). There's a welding certification center about 15 minutes from me that has classes all day long, but they're crazy expensive compared to doing it through a CC. Trying to decide what to do about it lol.

All the contemplating over which armor to buy goes away whenever you can just build whatever you want. Also you can see what works for you and what doesnt for a lot cheaper.

Buying me a plane ticket would be cheaper. Fly me out and Ill have you stacking dimes by lunchtime provided youve got a machine.

So the funny thing is, I can take welding with my GI bill, so I won't have to pay anything.

Problem is, I work 60-70 hours per week and only 2 days off (Wed/Thur) so I can't commit to taking any classes.

Get a decent used machine, and scrap metal and go for it. Watch YouTube videos and practice. Then take a class. You won't be welding overhead for awhile. But practice

As mentioned earlier in the thread, planning on renting out the house by the end of the year and getting an apartment in town for the added convenience of being closer to work, and having a garage.

Just described how I did it. Watched a ton of ChuckE2009's old how to videos, before he went all weird.

I have a couple friends that are certified and willing to help...my wife's brother is too. I'm looking into it as another career option though when we finally leave LA for a smaller town so I'm trying to look into the best way to approach it from that angle. The certification center is probably the best as far as committing to several months and getting the certs you want, but it's damn expensive

I'm probably going to get started on it though and take one course at a time, cheaper that way and I can learn what direction I want to go in along the way. Rather than committing to one type of welding/career at all once.

If I were early 20-something still then I'd probably take you up on that, unfortunately at this point I can't exactly up and leave for several months on end lol.

You want a swingout bumper then, those are awesome and ideally that's what I would want too...but swingout bumpers are $$$$

A swingout tailgate is probably 3x cheaper depending on the bumper

    Don't tempt me

Although I'm not as young as I used to be, I went swimming yesterday for the first time in forever and my fucking back hurts
