i finally got the thing ALL THE WAY DOWN to the ground (after removing tire)
gave the cable a good tug underneath after dosing cable with PB blaster, cable still bright and silvery. there seemed to be yellowish lube that came out on with the extra cable. maybe it was factory grease??

crawled back out and used the wrench to twist it more and it went further! it must've gotten jammed up when the DT people lowered it last winter to check the spare tire pressure and rolled it back up improperly
i wonder if i should go back to the DT and get the air checked all around, and then go in and get lippy with the manager about this. They ALREADY over torqued one of my lugs on the last rotation. The nut was so tight that I almost slipped a disc heaving that tire iron to get the last one off. Dealer parts guy told me they should NEVER be on that tight, you know!?

 

Doesn't it also depend on which way the wheel is facing? Mine comes to the ground, but the inside of the wheel is facing down, so the cable doesn't have to come down quite so far. ??????????

 

yes the inside of this steel wheel was facing down as well
it finally came all the way down per the directions with plenty of slack
the spare will be off for a period of time now
just have to raise the cable back up and cable tie to the bracket?

should I regrease the cable going back up into the housing?
right now I just hosed the PB blaster stuff all over cable

 

Yeah but you'll be replacing those lift shackles you have on now. What your holding is a stock length shackle. But if you're putting in new leaf springs for lift you'll be okay

 

Also @TheMTBtacoGuy it looks like that shackle is right up against your tail pipe...? Has it always been like that?

The pickups had their tailpipe like that. Impossible on a Taco with stock shackles for obvious reasons.

I plan on getting mine run between the shackle and the spare then exiting out under the corner of the bed at an angle like his. Tucked up but not chopped is what Im going for.

There is a gap so should I just leave the old Shackle on will it make it taller it looks a little bit better
