Ehhhh I don't know about that. I'd like to be proven wrong but I don't think a stock Taco is getting through the Rubicon, at least not without a lot of help (winching, pulling, etc.). And a lot of body damage lol.

I've done plenty of trails a stock Tacoma would have no business being on and the Rubicon is harder than all of those. Stock Jeeps have more of an advantage on that trail than stock Tacos do.

Guys in stock old jeeps take the bypasses which are like a normal semi technical trails as well. If you actually run the obstacles, there will be body damage and a stock or even stockish rig will suffer damage and get stuck often.

The Rubicon is one of the most popular 4x4 trails in the country, plenty of youtube videos on it

He's just referencing a Dirt Everyday episode, he doesn't have any real idea what some of the topography is like on these trails. Even the DED guys took mostly bypasses and destroyed their vehicles on the few obstacles they actually ran.

@Speedytech7 is right; I have the Guide to CA Backroads etc (Amazon) and it lists the Rubicon EAST/WEST. Mentions a few bypasses where available.

Yeah there's a lot of bypasses on the Rubi, and Zane is right the DeD episode where the ran the trail they took a lot of those easier bypasses. It's still an accomplishment no doubt, but to do the Rubicon right you really do need a rig that's far more capable than a stock Tacoma

Sad thing is, I haven't even gotten my feet wet at Hollister Hills and it's only half an hour away.

Most of the obstacles that are notorious have a bypass. The Rubicon has that advantage over many trails. But it's also more of a sight seeing trip at that point as well. Its mostly a challenge to your ability to build your rig accordingly and handle it deftly.

One of these days I'll have my truck up there and we'll have to hit up Hollister Hills, been wanting to check it out...I drive near it frequently when we visit my wife's family in the San Jose area
