I work for a large chemical company that recently merged with another large chemical company.

Title includes: Maintenance of air compressors, cooling towers, cooling water fan arrays, boiler operation and maintenance.

I have 10 cooling towers, 13 boilers and 8 250 HP, 1000 cfm air compressors that need constant monitoring or service.

I have no parabolic cooling towers (think nuke plants)

Toyota must really like that ignition cylinder. That’s looks exactly like the one on our trucks.

When would you use something like that?

I have a self made one in the truck for keeping the amperage output on the alt up for winching that way I can focus on the winching rather than if my battery is going to die despite the truck still being running which can happen. You could use it to limp if your cable broke I guess too.

How much does the voltage really fluctuate? We all know how inaccurate the factory gauges are. Has anyone hooked up a scan tool to see real numbers?

Hand throttles used to be a big thing on farm trucks, super handy. Also a lot of times offroad with a manual that a hand throttle would be nice

The cruiser being a fancy weirdo has multiple alt output/demand modes. At idle it doesn't supply a whole bunch so the idle feels smoother. I idle around 13.4-13.8 and above 900rpm it seems to peak around 14.5-14.8. But again a load is really the worry factor, since all alternators supply less amperage at idle than say 1500rpm. I'll use it in the cruiser to keep the AC performance up in traffic, and on the taco I use it to keep the winch from draining the battery then taking out the alt in the process.

I'm in Oregon too so that isn't even far for me haha, I'm sure I've been some of the places he's talking about. The Gifford Pinchot national Forrest is absolutely amazing

@BartMaster1234 and @koditten, if you have a manual trans it can be nice too so if you're in the rocks or on a super steep hill your starts can be easier and you can use the brake and clutch simultaneously. I haven't need that yet but who knows maybe I'll park myself precariously one time or accidentally stall on a ledge or something.

I never understood why you had to swap things in your trucks. What was wrong with the donor truck you use the body for?

It was pretty tired as most neglected Toyotas can be. It had a higher mileage 3RZ that had its engine light on for lots of things (seemed to run okay though), was a fucking automatic (dangerously slow), was on some clapped out suspension, and was nasty inside. But it had nicer axle gears than my other one did, it had a perfect frame, body didn't leak, everything worked, and the bed interior was flawless. I wanted my manual trans and recently rebuilt engine so I swapped it all, and if you swap the trans you swap the ECU and associated wiring. Doing the wiring, well might as well put my nicer HVAC crap from the other truck in too. I swapped every electrical harness, all HVAC, all clutch related components, welded new x-members in, swapped steering rack, spindles, years worth of mods on the other truck done in days... not to mention suspension and welding sliders back on... thanks again @drr you saved my bacon! All because I wanted my reliable Toyota pickup back again, I knew all my parts were good, it was just a matter of installing them.
