My Optiplex had something like 256MB of RAM. My laptop that came later on in life (roughly 2008) was a Sony Vaio. That one was even better, 512MB of RAM!

The sad thing is sometimes I fire it up to hear the old quantum drives. They’ve long since quit reading. But they sound like my childhood: lol

They actually were acquired by Atari in 2003 and then Atari sold the rights to another company that is now capitalizing on it

Apparently those Quantum drives are worth big money. I got my entire vintage Apple Computer collection from a kid going off to college and needed it out of his house for free. I got like 5 Macintoshes, an Apple IIGS, IIe, []+, a few prototype Apple drives, a whole bin of Apple literature and programming manuals, and a whole box of Quantum drives. Thought they were worthless till I looked them up on eBay, they're worth money even broken.

Yes on all but 5 of those, haha. Don't live with my parents, I don't prefer to rent (but I do), I was terrible with dating until I was in my 20s so < 8 partners, I've managed to put away modest savings and no one can survive in CA on $35k a year lol. You need at least ~$60k as a single person I think to not be living hand to mouth.

I think most people of our generation and the ones after it are going to have to rely on dual income households, esp living in CA.

Was really hoping my order history went past 2008, but then I remembered I had another email before that with older purchase history...anyway this rig probably ran longer than any other computer I built -

I grew up with PC Games, I didn't play my first console until the Wii came out in 2006. Although I didn't get into enthusiast PC building until roughly 2014-ish.

My dating consisted of one girl for 10 years...then a short break followed by an 8 year relationship (still current)...lol I have never really been single.

You're right about living in CA; I'm only fortunate that I saved my money from multiple deployments to Iraq...my ex-wife didn't get a single cent of that and I bought a house after we divorced.

On second thought, I probably wouldn't survive being single lol

    Lol $200 for the E8400?

I went to the E-Recycler to buy a few pounds of CPU's since I wanted to make keychains with it. What I got was maybe 30-40 Intel E8000 series CPU's for like $25

If you drive on I-880 for even 5 minutes you'll see a truck hauling Teslas. I even see flatbeds hauling the raw rolls of steel that form the body panels, they're all marked Tesla on them.

That doesnt mean their selling though. I fall for that bait all the time. Ill grab something at the junkyard that is priced high on ebay. Then end up selling at a loss cause Im sick of it sitting on the shelf for 2 months.

Those Z31 center caps are a prime example of this. Down to $23 shipped and no takers.
