Just subtract your GVWR from the curb weight of your truck. That's usually your rough payload capacity. My truck weighs 2.10 tons unloaded (~4,200 pounds) and my GVWR is 5,100 pounds. Subtract that and you get 900 pounds of payload.

So basically, I was overweight by 1,500 pounds.

I don't know if I did that math right, someone please feel free to correct me.

I would get a trailer for 2,000 pounds of weight. I was riding the bumpstops badly with ~2,400 pounds in the bed.

Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I am speaking from experience.

Must have been crushing your bump stops. I've ridden on mine with less than half that weight in the bed when I had Dakars.

Actually yeah, that's a much more reasonable idea.

I can't find the picture where I had the concrete piers, but here is 20 bags of 80 pound concrete mix (1,600 lbs) towing a ~1,000 lb concrete mixer.

    Not
Correct what? Your experience of carrying 2400 lbs in the bed and riding on the bumpstops? How do we correct that? That had to have been with your new leaf springs though, no way that was on original leaf packs, right? That much weight will guarantee riding on your bumpstops, hopefully this was just a short little run with that much weight.

I've done a mod or two
I regularly carried 1200lbs but I had pretty strong springs and lots more room to squat with my lift. But 800ish was the limit for long term, that was usually my camping fully loaded with extra fuel and water limit.

I mean correct me if I'm wrong that ~2,000 pounds is enough to start thinking about using a trailer instead of a bed.

Yes I agree, unless it's a little short slow run to wherever you're going. I'm not running on interstate with 2000 in the bed. But that's me, someone else might feel comfortable with it. I do think that is a lot of weight to regularly carry in a light pick up like Tacoma. Definitely would wear plenty of things out prematurely if done regularly

Thats actually a really simple panel. My PLC only has 12 inputs and 7 outputs. They can come with over a hundred of each.

Im pretty proud of myself though, almost everything you see there was bought, found or given to me second hand. Even the wire haha. Only bought the switches and terminal blocks new.
