    What I really want is that Generac standby generator @Empty_Lord has. It does 20kW on natural gas. They’re expensive though.

    Just buy a little 9hp generator like me thats 500$ and be fine. Run what you need. Probably use it once a year at most

    Why are you buying a generator for your parents house if you arent gonna be living there in a few years? I totally get having a small one to run your tools off of in a pinch. But buying a whole house generator for a place that isnt even yours? Sorry, that makes absolutely zero sense to me.

    Their house= Their problem. Why should you have to pay for it if youre gonna be moving out in a few years?

    Do what @Sperrunner said and get something to run the essentials for $500
