Since when is that craphole on the east coast?

 

is it best to take the i5 down the west coast or the 101 or just the 1

Take the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) otherwise known as the 1...that follows along the coast the entire way. Most scenic drive by far. It merges with the 101 through some parts of the state.

The 5 is mostly boring as hell since it goes through central CA which is mostly farm land, also goes through the major cities. Gets pretty up north though when you get closer to Oregon.

i would be coming from the north to south, i am already lost!

 

It’s best to avoid the whole south west state

You can drive from southern CA to Oregon in ~10 hours via the 5...and nearly die of boredom. Or take the PCH and enjoy the drive but it'll take you a few days to get from one end to the other

i can drive from here to Denver, or Chicago or Canada in 8 hours or so and die of boredom as well

 

At least do the Big Sur portion of the PCH, nothing like it. Redwood forests and huge mountains/cliffs meeting the ocean for miles.

That's funny you can drive either 1 or 395 on the edges of the state both have amazing views or you can go straight up the middle on 5 and be board to death!

 

... the drive to Canada is the worst!

maybe 4 towns in 500 miles that have a population of any significance, i.e. over 10k
