actually the 3rd gen (for the most part) has been quite helpful lately
lots of discussion whereas 1st gen is substandard in this unmentioned area imo anyways

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

At that price, I don't think it's a lot of money at all. Sure, he can probably get it cut and balanced for $200. But how many miles are on his carrier bearing? That's $80-90 minimum (for a Spicer). How bout his U-joints? That's $20 a piece (on the cheap side)... so that's another $40-50... and then there is the "non-servicable" double cardin joint... that you can actually replace the U-joints if needed, but it's a royal pain in the ass... and another $50 minimum for U-joints or $200 for the cardin joint by it's self (+weld and balance)

Or... you can buy a new driveline for a couple hundered bucks more than cut and balance, and it's plug and play.

Use the search function, research doesn't have to be an active conversation. We're tired of answering the same shit only to have it not be what you want to hear, because then you just re-ask.

Well kind of... You can replace the U-joints in the double cardin... but it's a TOTAL pain in the ass. Plus, there is no part number actually listed for them (that I could find) so you have to take actual measurements of the ones you pull and then find U-joints that match those specs.

To replace the whole double cardin would require cut, weld, balance.

Depends on how much time and money you want to put into it. I was a broke high school student that didn’t have money for a new driveshaft nor the need for one. My driveshaft I knew was still good at only 80,000 miles.

I read there aren’t any straight up replacement u joints. You can get some theatre close, throw them on a lathe and cut a couple thousandths of an inch off, but no bolt ons

I decided to change my carrier bearing too just because. The damn thing was still perfectly fine, could’ve kept it on for much longer than I did. I don’t see the need replacing something that’s perfectly fine.

That one gets all the grime from the road. I always sprayed the shit out of my trucks after a trip and regreased to push the garbage out. Greasing before a trip is lame when you can grease after and get two birds stoned at once.
