So I made the royal mistake of breaking the hubs free with pliers and I did notice in drive the cVs matched tire rotation. while when they were “stuck” in the free position they seemed to spin just a bit slower . Am I crazy ? Or did I just solve my own issue

FJ rear springs and the Taco Bilstein shocks are installed now. Gained a little lift in the rear and it feels a little softer overall I think. Drives good still. Also got my ORS CV boots today so I guess I'll be swapping those out this weekend.

    Start - XREAS crap.

Then went to front 2019 Taco shocks and springs, stock rear springs and Gabriel temp shocks.

Now with the FJ rear springs and Taco shocks. I'm guessing about .5" to .75" lift in the rear over the stock springs since I forgot to measure.

On "free", the CV's shouldn't spin

On "lock", the CV's should spin with the tire rotation

There is a chance during an installation of your hubs, they were put together incorrectly.

I'd suggest removing them, rebuilding them with a new o-ring, gasket, and grease, and throw them back together.

Beautiful nieces you have there, man I can't imagine the work involved with having and raising twins. Much respect

@Empty_Lord, pulling the CVs on my 03 4R gunna be similar to the Taco? Going to install the ORS CV boots tomorrow to replace the torn inner boots on it. Need to find a tool for the straps or figure out a way to secure them too. Maybe Autozone has one.

    @Colton317

The hardest part is the removal of the hub assembly from the hub. I've circled the area to focus on, and you can easily take care of this with a hammer and a brass drift.

Undo the nut until it's flush with the stud, place brass drift on stud/nut surface, and hammer away. The cone washer will get knocked loose after a few tries -

    1.jpg

I think there was a snap ring in there somewhere; just make sure you have snap ring pliers. You'll need them when you disassemble and reassemble your manual hubs.

If your hubs have never been rebuilt, expect a bit of a nasty mess -

    2.jpg

This was after running the parts through some brake cleaner and wiping off the excess sludge build up. The o-ring in that picture needs replacing; it keeps water/moisture.

    Cleaning this is pretty self-explanatory.

If you want to add some "wow" factor, you can do like I did and get the hub cover and dial media blasted. Repaint with your favorite enamel paint; ensure to only paint the outer surface.

    3.jpg

Reassembly is the opposite; ensure you only lightly lube where the o-ring sits. Use your favorite grease, lightly, on the mating surfaces.

From what a buddy of mine with the same year T4R has said, its the same. Compared to 2nd gens anyway but I doubt there's much difference there either. The spindle to ball joint connection is probably the main difference

There are only 2 bolts that hold the spindle to the LBJ on the 4R, so not too bad to separate. 160ft/lbs torque tho!

So much snow, 9" in a couple hrs. The Kumhos on the Cruiser eat it up like no one's business.

Damn..their LBJ bolts take almost as much torque as our axle nuts lol. That's crazy

Love car parts that are new in box, waiting for install.

@BartMaster1234 turned me to the tool on Amazon for the boot clamps.

In fact, I need to find it; couldn't find it for Ryan when I told him I'd let him borrow it.

Yeah, I forgot to order one and don't want to wait for it so I can do the install tomorrow. Both inner boots are torn and have been for who knows how long. Hoping the inner CVs aren't toast.

yea real easy. large axle nut (35), 2 19 or 22mm bolts (i dont remember) takes the ball joint loose. and i would take the caliper off and hang it so you dont risk ripping the line off.., watch the ABS wire too.
