your cab seals for one. water gets in the cab and still fry your ecu.

 

Are you serious? A snorkel would have done jack and shit in your situation. The moment you dunked your truck above the ECU, fuse box, integration module, ETC it was done for.

 

My point is a snorkel wouldn't have helped at all. You're going to short out and destroy computer modules before you hydrolock your engine.

IMO, they're mostly just for show on modern trucks. There are so many electronics that will be compromised before you have a chance for the snorkel to be effective. By the time water has reached your intake manifold, you already have a ton of other problems.

Your engine never hydrolocked. You made the smart choice of getting out while the water was still relatively low. I say it would've made no difference.

I read thats the primary function of a snorkel is for dust

 

seeing this picture the only thing comes to my mind is the movie "Down Periscope"

 

it is plus cooler air.

 

But snorkels are only made for high water

 

It's being pulled from a location farther away from the engine though. The engine heats up the engine bay and fenders quite a bit
