Yeah, if Wednesdays would be the 29th (I'm going fishing on the 22nd) after that, not until next month (possibly the 5th - 19th and 26th are open)

Once you get the brackets on the truck, you can rest the bumper on the brackets and it will hold fine. Use the floor jack with a nice chunk of lumber to slightly raise it up as needed to secure the 3 bolts on each bracket side for the bumper. Use a wedge of packing foam on each fender side to confirm clearance.

EDIT: You said your buddy has that offroad shop. Hell man, just pay them to do the install. I would. Faster and you don't have to worry about hassling with the winch.

Still down to help but wanted to add that.

That's exactly how I did the 4 ARB bars I've installed on Cruisers. I mean yeah can be awkward or bulky but after you do it you think 'why did I not just do it sooner?' it's actually easy and straight forward. Just bulky.
But I snapped a pic for you while I had my hood up to clean my MAF sensor just now. Looks like on my 2000 Tacoma the VIN sticker for the hood is at the front of ittmp-cam-2714661755968805132.jpg

thanks, appreciate it. I most certainly have an aftermarket hood. Just don't remember the bodyshop putting that in the paperwork. Oh well. Thanks for the confirmation.

I've always thought that the conversion did not involve modifying smog equipment, so could not be failed off of it.
Who knows though, no problems yet!

The Victor is a good machine, turns as true as it did in 1982. Only thing that really gives up its age besides the worn controls is the CRT jumping a bit. It's weird coming from using a modern late 2017 CNC lathe to this. But they use the same code and the control layouts are similar.

It might not involve modifying smog equipment but making it a 4wd means the original vehicle info is no longer "correct" in describing the vehicle as a 2wd truck. They probably see that as a gray area...smog shops don't like gray areas. They're under so much pressure already from the state to make sure they perform inspections correctly that I wouldn't be surprised if they turned away a converted truck.

That being said...I highly doubt any of them would even notice as long as you don't say anything. If you say something about it then I'd expect they'd turn you away just to cover their ass.

There are guys on here that have been failed or turned away for having snorkels installed even though a snorkel is perfectly smog legal. Some shops aren't clear about that and would rather not deal with what they think is a risk/liability. The fines from the state are big and they can get shut down if it happens often enough

Some cable guides out of high speed Dom tubing. Hard stuff. The Victor is a short bed lathe and very accurate still so it's a good job for it.

I think you should organize a coup getting shops to pass vehicles that don't pass until there are no shops left.

Can you do like an automated redirect? Kinda like call forwarding...

You could put it in the 3rd gen section. That's already a dumpster fire, lol

Any time a user mentions "frame rust" or "fluid film" it just auto dumps the post in there.

    Neat.

I left my mark on the mill at work for all of eternity last week.
    IMG_20200108_104525611.jpg
Stupid end mill loosened up while making a pass. Our lead machinist was there watching/assisting me the entire time so I dont feel as bad. He filled it with some super expensive 2 part epoxy and called it good.

Ouch. Amazingly all of the knee mills at my work don't have a single significant mark on them. Some thing like that would probably get you chewed out pretty good and then they'd make you take it apart and throw it in the part stock pile since it's still good hardened material. And when the replacement platen arrived you'd have to put it on, true it up, and then you'd probably be told to use one of the jankier machines haha
