My Alcans were about 5 years old and had been used pretty well. I know they could have lasted another few years, but just decided to go with brand new OEM vs 5 year old custom. They are a really good company to deal with and like others have said, they'll make you exactly what you ask for. Back when I first ordered them, this is what they told me, don't know if the prices have changed in 5 years or not:

"Thank you for visiting our web site. At Alcan Spring we custom build our springs to fit your Toyota by using information you give us about its weight distribution, lift requirements, and how you plan to us it. The cost of the springs: $ 235.00 each rear spring. They come with bushings and take about 3-4 weeks to design and build. The cost is for a performance type spring but maybe not so much for heavy hauling. We also make a stock type spring with an extra leaf for better capacity they are 205.00 a side.

If you have any other questions please feel free to email us again, or call us at 1-888-321-0870. When you are ready to order, please call us so we can discuss any particulars you have for the performance of your springs."

Oh yeah, forgot - if you want to save a little money you could go with the Bil. HD's instead of the 5100's. Both will be a big upgrade over your worn OEM's, and the HD's are fine if you're keeping stock height.

Anyone have any problems with Bilstein 5100's leaking? I was calling around getting prices and a couple of the people I talked to didn't have anything good to say about them. Not sure if I should believe my fellow TW'ers and think that 5100's are the way to go or believe the guys at the local shops. They could of course been trying to persuade me into buying something (no doubt more expensive) that they have in stock vs. the 5100's which would have to be ordered in.

Just when I thought I had my mind made up!

i just took off the set of rear 5100's i had on and they are still in great shape, and i beat the hell out of them. i think the shop is trying to jerk ya. 5100's have a great rep.

i sort of had a bad feeling because the rest of the conversation went something like..

me: i am interested in Bilstein 5100 shocks, do you carry those?

them: we can order them, usually takes about 2 or 3 days to get them in

me: great! my truck is a '99 tacoma 4x4

them: does that have a lift?

me:  ahhhh...shouldn't matter, the 5100's are adjustable.

    them: oh right...blah blah blah

    UPDATE:

So I finally went for it today, put in my order for...

    Wheelers/Alcan 5-pack springs
    Bilstein 5100's x4
    OME 881's
    and assorted nuts and bolts

Better be worth it. Definitely going to end up over my initial budget but I can't take driving my truck around in the sad state that it is in much longer.

I hope things improve, tired of running over a pebble in the road and it feeling like I just ran over the curb. Already got some "before" pics are here too but I hope to get more as things get torn apart.

Most everything is getting delivered tomorrow...I'll be waiting anxiously for the UPS man! Of course I will have to continue to wait because of the shortage of front end Bilsteins right now...sigh...and I'm going to get everything installed at once. Don't want to be driving around with my ass end hiked up in the air and the front bumper dragging on the ground.

Haven't done anything yet...just looking at the pile of shiny new parts in my garage every time I drive the truck in or out...
Sounds like front Bilsteins are going to be in soon though. :goingcrazy:The wait is driving me crazy!:goingcrazy:
