What's the process to remove the column? How difficult is this?

I did it by myself and not an a mechanic by any means. So pretty easy. Remove plastic under steering wheel remove plastics around column take wheel off and turn signals lights switch air bag 4 small bolts i think once all is off the column you can pull it 4 large bolts hold it in and remember to loosen the bolt by the brake pedal so it will pull out. Reassemble. One thing you will have to do is take off the ignition key thingy and replace it on the new column. it’s held on the column with two breakaway bolts they are kind of tricky to get off because the head of the bolt breaks off when tightened all the way. You can get new ones from the dealership. Put it all back in . Maybe missed something it’s been a while.
If I did it I feel anyone can do it. I do have to do another one to put in here soon and a YouTube video will probably be made.
    Hope this help you

I recently did the new column swap and the steering feels great now!

    Tools needed:
    Small flat blade screw driver,
    Philips head screw driver,
    10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 19mm sockets
    Ratchet
Also used electric impact to speed things up
    Long T30 Torx bit
    Magnet stick
    A few drill bits
    Drill
    Center punch
    Hammer
    Vise grip/pliers
    Flash light
    Replacement ignition bolts
Possibly pulley pulley or air hammer

Be sure to unplug battery and Derm (air bag computer), located on transmission hump, behind the 2 accessories cigarette lighter ports. You don't need to pull the center/shift console like I did.

The T30 Torx bolts that hold the air bag in were a little fussy to come out, so a strong magnet stick may be needed.

I just shook the steering wheel hard to get it unstuck, you may need a pulley puller or air hammer to shock the steering shaft.

Once you have the column out you need to drill out the ignition lock bolts to swap it onto your new column. Center punch the head of the bolt, then carefully drill about 1/4" into each one with a tiny drill bit. Go slow so you don't snap it off. Then keep increasing the drill size until the bolt head breaks off. Remove old threads with vise grip or plyers.

Toyota sells replacement ignition bolts, OP can send you the part number.

Very happy with the transaction and part!

That being said it is a DLX and I really didn't need to do any mods because obviously it's the DELUXE edition
Yea can anyone confirm that this would work on a 98? One thing I noticed is that my 98 does not have an adjustment lever to move the steering wheel height it's fixed in place, and it looks like the column you have shown in the picture does have the adjustment lever. I can't tell you what a pain in the ass it is to not be able to adjust the steering wheel height so if this is compatible I'm 100% sold.
