I posted this under the normal threads but didn't get much traction. Does anyone know who sells a complete SUA kit for the 1st gen's? I've seen plenty of kits for newer gens, but hardly anything for the 1st. I know TC offers parts but I'm looking for other options as well. I already have shock and bumps; I just need the rest of the components.

    Thanks.

Giant 64 (for a Ford) is the only other off the shelf option besides TC SUA kit. FWIW for 2nd-3rd gens there are only a couple actual options despite several companies making kits. With all of these kits they either run a 62" spring with an inverted shackle (DMZ, Dirt King, etc.) or 62" spring with a regular shackle (JD) or 64" spring with an inverted shackle (Giant).

Both of these trucks run it:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-on-37s-long-travel-completion-date-tbd.237989/

The only other option is on this truck:

64 kit is probably the way to go if you don't have a bed because it will require some holes to be made for the inverted shackle in the bed.

Thanks. I spoke with Giant yesterday and either the 62" and 64" will work. I will most like go with the 62" because I don't want to change the rear end.

Don’t go with their 62 kit. Just ask @jberry813

If you go 62 100% go 12” TC shackles above the frame, front and rear pivots, and Barnes 4x4 large bolt bushings and Deaver H70 / E30 or H70 HD depending on your weight. Make sure you cycle and start at the magic 52.5” number and go from there.

    @jberry813 Enlighten me, please.

@Dalandser This kit https://www.giantmotorsports.com/product/1986-1995-toyota-62-long-travel-leaf-spring-kit/ comes with their 12" shackle but looks like it mounts under the frame. I suppose I can get TC's kit if that works better.

The idea of going with the 62" kit was to keep things simple and retain my bed. I was told that if I chose the 64" kit, I would need a Tundra axle (which I have), but I was saving it for when I eventually link the suspension—if that day ever comes. My original plans to install a four-link suspension changed, which is why I’m now opting for a spring-under kit.

IIRC the shackles smacked the frame before the springs were at full bump and that's all Giant makes.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/jberrys-retarded-desert-penguin.138220/page-176#post-10251240

12" shackles above the frame is all you want to do - my friend @Anthony250 who worked at LSK when he was building his truck set mine up the same way like his and it cycles 16.75" nicely.

Here's a link to his truck when he did his:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/anthonys-99-tacoma.175933/page-20#post-7888627

This is from Total Chaos / Kartek. If you buy the parts from TC they have made a ton of these thrucks. Geoff is more Ford, and a little Tacoma so not everthing has as much R&D as TC. The 64 kit is amazing, but the 62 kit is a pass imo.

And there is a lot more information in the first post here (IDK why they had 10" shackles, just ignore that and go 12's)

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-long-travel-chat.750980/

To simplify I'll put it all in one place for the parts you want to get.

    Shackles

    https://www.chaosfab.com/product/1996-2004-Toyota-Tacoma-12-inch-Chromoly-Shackles-41200

    Shackle Gussets

    https://www.chaosfab.com/product/1996-2004-Toyota-Tacoma-Shakle-Pivot-Gussets-40450

    Front Spring Hangers

    https://www.chaosfab.com/product/1996-2004-Toyota-Tacoma-Front-Spring-Hangers-40060

    U Bolt plates:

    https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/R2198.html

U Bolts (if you buy new Deavers they come with them)

    https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/R1250.html

    And Deaver H70 / E30's or H70 HD if you're heavy.

    https://dirtking.com/products/deave...VyPdHsCLbJb6Vi04OTf9UvSqtgN6-8zmKrYoWZIjSMnd7

You'll need an extended rear brake line (I can't remember how long since I went with a custom location other than the LSPV location but Kartek and a bunch of places sell them).

All in all I had $1939.83 vs. $1875 for the Giant Nissan 62 kit which is probably what you'd need since they Toyota 62 kit is for 2nd-3rd gens on their site (you can see the shackle hanger plate for the 2nd/3rd gen's dovetailed rear frame). They're all $1875 either way.

Dang, Dude. Thanks for all this info! I'd like to run my 2.5x16 triples out side of the frame, with this parts list will I be able to do that with the stock rear end?

You got it for sure. You'll need to use your Tundra axle to use the shocks outside the frame. It's kind of necessary with any SUA due to there only being a couple inches of clearance between the ends of the axle and the frame on 1st gens compared to 2nd / 3rd gens on which the frame dovetails in the back making more room for shocks outboard. Even SOA they'll slightly rub on articulation with 2.5 triples outside of the frame with a Tundra axle here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...fed-trophy-truck.352499/page-10#post-11239622

Some guys will either run a small spacer or sligthly notch the side of the frame to make sure they don't rub at all.

Is there anything I need to get for the Tundra axle to be installed on the Tacoma? Does it bolt right in? What about a slip yoke, do I need to do anything for that?

You just have to grind off the spring perches if you’re not going to integrate them into the bump stop strike pads. Brake line will hook up to the extended soft line you get, they're all M10x1.0

    Reminds me you'll need these.

If you need help setting the pinion angle, I'd call DMZ - he's probably set up more 1st and 2nd / 3rd gens than anyone at any shop. You'll need limit straps, but you can do that after. Ruffstuff has pretty good prices on various mounting tabs etc. but you can make your own or get some from McKenzies or Kartek or Amazon / eBay too.

For sure! You might have to drill out the hole for the centering pin on the u bolt plates and also make sure you ask for 5/8" u bolts with your springs - I got 9/16" u bolts with my deavers, but the RS plates are made for 5/8". Worst case, just buy 5/8 u bolts from RS ($13 a piece x 4) and sell your ones from deaver.

It's hard to tell but is your 02 a double cab? Got any pictures you can share?
