I noticed today that with the headlights OFF when I press on the brake the dash lights light up and go out once I let go.

Replaced two taillights with aftermarket over a year ago and two years ago the trailer harness kit

I am guessing the same gremlins that were making my horn randomly go off

    Any suggestions?

Problem did not occur again but I would say this will have to be replaced

for parts or to put back on the road?

Strip all electrical and all interior, cage it, redo electrical to strict minimum, and BAJA!
Dielectric grease will help with that problem. I put that shit on everything!

I was thinking parts truck but it’s tied up at a impound lot so who knows what will happen to it.

I think silver Tacoma will be the Baja truck as it has a repaired solid frame. Good for a woods rig but not fit for the road

Like franks red hot sauce “I put that $hit on everything”

    This and fluid film
    Plug for a sponsor? Lol

is the bed still ok? Maybe you already said it, but swap silver bed on the red one? And then flat bed the silver, with Long travel and then ride the trail to the beach like a champ!

I actually never used fluid film lol i like CRC power lube, or real grease. For the frame I get it undercoated by a shop, I guess they use Krown or something like

Someone send this man a sample can of FF once you try it there is no going back. I buy this for $80 and use the whole can on my truck

    IMG_6461.jpg

Soooooo the bed on the silver truck is good, this is the whole reason i bought it lol. It has grown on me hi ho silver !

My theory or what i tell my wife is the silver truck is complete and in good shape (also is a auto so different trans, t case, driveshaft, computer among other things), If i get the wrecked one (standard with manual t case exactly like my red truck) i will take the parts i want and ditch the rest. even without the damage the cab on the wrecked truck was bad in spots with a bad frame.

    Or ................... i am a hoarder of Tacoma's

But not only Taco's among other things such as but not limited to
    Honda z50's and ct70's
skidoos old (2004) and relay old
    skidoo trailers
    wood stoves
anything i can burn in said wood stoves
    tools mechanical and wood working
    old NES games
    Lego
    building material
    chainsaws
    nuts and bolts
    screws
    tacoma parts
    sheds

my wife would be able to triple this list

Please do tell more about this fluid film stuff. I mean, Ive heard of it, but kindof assumed it was for rust prevention - and if youve already got rust starting, maybe its too late for that? But clearly I'm wrong .
My 2003 has surface rust on the frame and .... well all of the under side. If theres something I can do to slow this down and extend the life of my truck ... I'm all ears!

And Ive never seen rust like what youre having to deal with out there ..

Of course putting fluid film on a surface already rusted will slow down the rusting process. In my case I get a rustproof treatment each year at fall. They spray a thick oily stuff on the frame, under the floor, on the insode of the hood, inside the doors, rockers and fenders, where moisture can build up and cause rust, and make those components rot. I am kinda surprise that you don't deal with that much rust being in Alberta lol I know the air is less humid, maybe it plays in the rust game :notsure:

Look into POR15 man. Give everything a good cleaning and paint it with that stuff first. It will stop the rusting haha especially if u toss some fluid film over it haha

Thanks for the tips. I'll look into that.

We do have to worry about some rust out here in AB too. There's a load of salt on our roads right now . But ive never seen anything as bad as the pics Jon here is posting. Youre probably right - the high and dry air must have something to do with it.

I'm impressed with his determination to battle it and keep that 1st gen running!

Got this from a friend to copy it for my 1st gen. It still uses the stock bumper as it mounts to the top. My bumper is shot :(

Had a question from a member about the performance i have gotten out of my magnaflow exhaust

    this was my response

Hi sorry for the late response

To be honest i bought all my trucks used and never had a TRD muffler on one of my OWN trucks.
That being said i have a friend who has the trd on his and i feel they sound the same.
I bought a 2.5 cat back magnaflow from hottexhaust.com and found a coupon code online for a % off for my 2002 v6. My 2007 tacoma after frame replace at dealer will probably need a exhaust and i will be going with the cat back magnaflow.

The climate i live in is harsh on trucks the mangnaflow has held up it is not shiny but i never have had a problem with the magnaflow part of the exhaust. I just looked it up in my file and it was put on in April 16 2012 i paid $419.42 CAD to the door this was a excellent deal By my calculations it has about 100 000km on it

again i have great service out of this product and will be purchasing again for my 2007 when i need one

    Take care

    Jon

Sorry I thought I replied but I believe in this so much I just bought my second can for my 2007 that is in getting a new frame. Apply over rust, or while wet and it migrates :) have a read
