1st gen trd offroad

I saw a 1st gen regular cab yesterday and it had TRD offroad bedside decals. Did Toyota make a offroad reg cab?

 

IIRC the TRD package was never offered on a regular cab 1st gen. It first appeared on xtracab, 6-lug models only, in the '98 model year. Later ('01, I think) it was offered on some of the double cab models.

Yeah, there's quite a few of them out there too. You can buy reproduction TRD decals off of Ebay that look exactly like the OEM one's and I've seen quite a few people slap those on their trucks.

 

I was thinking of doing that but nope, my TACO gets down(does the job) with out the locker

 

Im looking at an 01 Tacoma xtracab and curious if there is list anywhere that has the indicators between regular, TRD, and SR5 packages. The one im looking at has the TRD stickers, Alloy wheels, and the rear locker button on the dash but they also have what appears is the original dealership sticker on the window (its a one owner). This sticker says nothing about it being TRD or the rear locker *edit* *sticker does indicated TRD\SR5 package* .. im just a little nervous..

Also when the dealer ship repairs the frame rails with either new rails or with the spray does leave any type of sticker or stamp indicating so?

If it has the RR Diff Lock button on the dash, its a pretty safe bet it was a factory install. The locker is the heart of the TRD package. There will be an actuator motor mounted on the right front of the rear diff if the truck actually has the locker.

 

Just got back from driving it and it appears its a TRD SR5 package. It has the rear locker (light came on dash when I used it) and it has cruise control. I think it has also had the frame sprayed for the rust issue.

The only thing I noticed was that the shifter (auto) moved around a bit while drive. I would say a 1/4 of an inch movement... not sure if thats normal or not since its been a long time from the last I drove an auto.

Also KBB has two options when I try and value this truck. Xtracab and xtracab limited... The pics look the same but there is about 3k difference in value on the same options.

Its an 01 with 75k, xtracab, with camper.. the question is do I want to pay 12k for it.

 

Seems like a good deal if the history is clean. The shifter moving around that much is normal. Did it have chrome side mirrors? This is a main indicator of the limited package.

It did not.. Now im worried. Any other indicators from that diff a limited vs non-limited?

 

^ The Limited models will come with painted color matched bumpers and fenders, another key indicator. The non Limited models will have chrome bumpers and grilles and black plastic mud flares or fender flares. However the Limited models have nothing to do with it being a TRD model or not.
