Any top plate spacer is going to lengthen the stock shock/spring combo. When you lengthen the assembly, it stresses the ball joints, and can cause breakage od the shocks as they try and extend further than they can. Look at what happened to 06Bluez truck. Also, search around on TTORA and you will see damage caused by this type of lift. why they say it is fine (if its a top plate lift), I dont know. The 5100's preload the OEM spring to achieve lift, but they are valved for the preloaded spring rate, thus giveing a better ride.

That's what I plan on doing. I'm only looking for a couple inches up front after I get the TSB done.

I could be wrong, but judging from the pics on that link, the extra angle on the ball joints in the upper control arm are whats causing the problem. Do they make aftermarket ball joints that are longer to compensate for the lift???

Not that I know of. The only alternative is a UCA with a Uniball joint.

I did not know this! Thanks for your info in these spacers. I was looking at ToyTec 2.5" lift with the aal's. I think I will go w/the 5100's. What would you recommend if I have not had the rear tsb done? What would you set the 5100"s @ ? I'm thinking of adding 1 aal and going w/the 5100's.

Check out some of the folks on here that may have them installed, and see what they are running. AAL is the best rear lift option for the money.

I keep hearing it over and over and just need to dive in and do it.

Easy enough...5100's all around and the Toytec AAL for trucks WITH the TSB = about $350 plus the cost of an alignment. Set the front at 2.5 and it should be leveled out or a slight rake forward.

I'm not replacing the stock Sport rubbers but it should still look fine.

I'm happy with my spacer lift. It does not lengthen the shock. It bolts above it without having to compress the springs. http://www.extremetrucktoys.com/5-6_tac_lift.htm
I just added Spidertrax and 285/75r16's also.
P.S. I don't see alot about this lift on TW, but I like it.

How long have you had it? Have you noticed any thing unusual as far as wear or anything with the upper arm control ball joints thats been discussed.
I'm still thinking about those kits if I can get a better understanding of how the spacer lifts put more wear on the ball jonts vs. the Bilstein 5100 or the longer coils.

My 09 is done for now, I think.....
Billi's @ 2.5, TSB & 1.5" AAL from Toytec on stock wheels/tires. Ride is a lil stiffer but then again its a truck
I did order the Toytec adjustable CO's but have now changed my mind and will not install them. As soon as the missing parts arrive (SBR-129 - Front swaybar relocate kit:) chances are I will post them here for sale[IMG]

Yes, It effectively lengthened your shock/spring assembly. How do you think yuou got the lift? By makeing the assembly longer, thus lifting the front.

    Build thread in sig...

i think what he's saying is that since the spacer goes on top of the whole assembly instead of compressing the spring itsself, while the whole assemply is now longer, the shock absorber itsself is not extended further than normal while sitting still.

That could be, but a top plate lift, at the least, wears out ball joints.

several old addages come into play here:

You get what you pay for.

Buy cheap , buy twice; and, more than likely, buy agaon to fix what the cheap crap caused to break.

Well I did put 40,000 on an 06' 4x4 4runner with mild offroading with not problems using a daystar kit that uses top plate and coil spacer. I would not think you would have a thing to worry about if you drive a street truck that seldoms goes offroad.

now i have a question. since im running a top plate spacer/block lift now, im going to have to upgrade. ive originally thought about going with the complete ome 885/aal lift for the 3". but after seeing what bilstein's set at 2.5" and a 1.5" aal, i think that lift is pretty nice too.

so my question, aside from the fact that the bilsteins won't provide as much lift, which lift (complete ome or bilstein) is better for ride quality, durability, and which will last the longest before needing to be replaced or what not.

its kind of a nueb question but ive never asked

I think the OME will ride better than the 5100.
