Hello guys in new to Tacoma world and have never posted before so be patient with me please
I have recently sold my little tracker and bought a 2000 taco 2.7 4 cylinder with 170,000 miles on it the price was right so I’m not too worried about the little things but there are a couple things I could use guidance on.

So the engine is running very rough and engine light is on I plug in my obd2 tester and it reads three mill codes 300,301,302
Multiple cylinder misfire , cylinder 1 miss fire and cylinder 2 miss fire !
My hope was clogged fuel injectors since the fuel pump was just replaced! And hey you never know!
Well I wasn’t that lucky I’ve done a compression test and found cylinder 4 @ 160, cylinder 3 @ 155 cylinder 2 @ 55, and cylinder 1 @ 65 psi looks like I have bent or burnt valves ? Is this right? Oh and when I removed the air intake there was oil on the intake manifold looks like blow back !!!
    What would you do ??

Some people that have had this issue with the 3rz have been able to fix the low compression and misfire by adjusting the valve clearance. I would look into this as it is common for a 3rz with that mileage to need this service. I think that @Jcyr recently did this on his motor and could possibly help you out with the process.

I was actually just talking to a guy this weekend at a local MTB trail with a 3rz. He was telling me that his truck was misfiring and he adjusted his valves and the truck ran like new afterwards.

And even with such low compression 50-65 psi ?
That seems far to low for the valves to just need adjusting ?
In saying that when I start pulling it apart I will check the valves and see how badly the shims are worn if there is a large difference between the first two with low compression and the two with good compression I will redo the shims and try that before a full rebuild
Thanks for the info I’ll keep you posted

There are 8 per side and yes they 100 percent can cause low compression

Resurrecting old thread just to ask:

If they can cause low compression, wouldn't that mean that there is 0 or negative clearance between the shim and cam which causes the valve to slightly stay open? And at that point I am pretty sure the valve or seat is so badly worn/burnt that no shim that toyota makes would make it in spec. Does that make sense?
