    Hey all,

I have posted some of the upgrades and mods I have done since getting my truck back in September. It is the 2nd 2001 Tacoma, Xtra Cab, 4x4, I have owned. The first was the V6. The one I just bought it the 2.7 liter, 4 cylinder, automatic.

I was extremely skeptical about this set up, due to having the 3.4 V6 for over 10 years, before I sold it. I must say I am EXTREMELY happy with the 2.7 4 cylinder. I LOVE driving it. It is so smooth. It does feel a little under powered at times, especially when merging on to the freeway. But other than that, it is awesome! What a great little engine.

What are other people's views or opinions that have this same engine? Performance, longevity?

    Thanks all.

Im driving a 2004 Tacoma srs. 5 speed 2.7 l 4 cylinder 4x4. Bought the thing in October 2017 with 187k mi. Drove it from New Jersey to Colorado and back. No issue. No problem. These trucks are built to last as long as you maintain em correctly. Also these trucks are beasts in the snow!

With the single cab, I think the 2.7 is plenty. Do wish I had more power when up at higher elevations, so maybe in 10 years I'll turbo or supercharge it lol.

It was such a huge improvement over the 22RE I had in my previous truck. It would climb long hills on the interstate at 75 mph in 4th with no trouble.

It's a great little engine! Super reliable, tested & proven. I have about 275,000 miles on my '03 & it's still running like a champ. The only time it feels underpowered to me is on long inclines at interstate speed. I would buy another 2.7L no question.

I have about 169k on mine right now. Sounds like it has a lot of life left!

I had a 95 xcab, 98 reg cab, and 02 xcab all with the 2.7. The 95 was pitiful, but the 98 and 02 were awesome. The regular cab was probably my favorite truck of all. 22-25 mpg was the best part.

    All 3 were 4x4 5 speed. Had 31x10.50 on the 95 and 98 and 255/70/16 on the 02

I've got a TRD Supercharger , Doug's Headers Tri Y shorty header , Supra "Pink injectors " , K&N CAI and Gibson Cat back exh

You can do a TRD supercharger on the 2.7? Details? Pics?

Could still have different differential gear ratios... That's my guess as to why the 95 would be gutless compared to the other two, probably 3.10s or something

The lower boost 4psi is ok. Makes the truck feel somewhat similar to the 3.4. The high boost pulley would be the way to go IMO if you're gonna spend that kind of cash. Might as well get the most out of it I think.

I recently bought a 2.7L taco that has on of these S/C's on it. I'd guess it's probably around 4psi, but I haven't had time to put a boost gauge on it to know for sure. It's been a while since I've driven a V6 so I don't have the best comparison right now. I have a higher boost pulley (~8psi) and a meth kit that I'm going to add to it to hopefully wake it up a bit more.

    My 8psi turbo'd 3rz feels a lot faster than a V6 for sure.

    That's awesome, thanks.

One more question- are these true "TRD" SCs? Or are they 3rd party made?

From what I understand, all TRD chargers are made by magnuson. These are as well.

I had to put a rear end in that one. It was a 4:10 if I remember correctly

All my Tacomas have been 2.7l 4x4s autos. It fits the way I drive and my usual usage. On occasion it can need a downshift (overdrive off) on hills. I've not had any serious issues with the engine. The worst breakdown was a failed coil pack 4 hours from home, and that's not strictly an engine issue. I now carry a spare.

She gets overloaded all the time, and keeps coming back for more. If the fuel economy were better, it'd be the perfect truck. But it's pretty close as it is.
