Not much space in the 5 speeds to mount things. Has anyone put a brake controller in their 2.7 manual, and if you have where did you mount it?

I extended the wiring harness from the brake controller and then put the brake controller in the centre console in front of the 5 speed stick. Attached with 3m velcro. Run the wire through the parking brake removed trim plate. I was able to remove the brake controller unit (P3) and stuff the long wiring harness up under the dash when not towing.

I just ordered a Redarc with a plate for the dial controller so I can put itin one of the blanks to the left of the steering wheel. I can tuck the control module up under the dash.
You are right though. There isn’t much room at all with the 5 speed.

It is rare that a 2.7 engine will be towing anything with electric brakes. But I have a popup that weighs 1000 pounds and a boat trailer that weighs 800 pounds. Both have electric brakes. Brakes are good to have! Doing the wiring for the 7 pin trailer harness was another chore. But worth it.

I extended the 7 pin trailer harness wire and did NOT put it on the bumper. I ran it through the drivers side cubby. Keeps it out of the salt in the winter. I pull it out whenever I need it and run it either over the tailgate with a towel or put the tailgate down.

I pull a cargo trailer now that has no brakes, but we are getting a Tab or Aliner Ascape trailer early spring. Both are within the 2.7s capability and have electric brakes.

Crooked Beat, where did you run your wires through the firewall. There isn’t much room to work with on the firewall and no apparent spare grommets. I’m thinking the one where the large wire bundle from the fuse box and the hood release cable runs?
    Thanks for any tips.

I poked one wire through the grommet on the firewall - that is the one you are looking at.
The rest of the wires went through the grommet that is under the drivers seat - take off the door kickplate and pull back the carpet. Then under the door kickplate up to under the dash. The drivers seat grommet is very useful - you may be able to run all the wires through there in retrospect.

Been a while since I installed, but my Prodigy is mounted on the left side of the steering wheel just around the coin tray panel. If I remember to get a picture of it, I'll post it up. Use that to tow my Miata and recently a 14' camper. Having brakes is super important in my mind.

Loaded up for a last autocross of the season and remembered to take a couple of pictures. Knees bump it every now and again, but largely I find it to be a good spot for visibility (like to use it to see the trailer is hooked up and if I need to adjust gain).

Thanks. They are 18x9 et20 with a 255/45/18 tire (OE X-Runner tire size).

Thanks to all for the info. I am traveling right now and am going to be installing the controller next week.

Actually it is on XR Bilsteins w/ XII front springs and 4x4 rear springs w/ a 1" block.

If you use your controller only a few times a year, you may be able to get by by taking out the coin holder on the left side of the steering wheel and using a larger binder clip to secure the controller. I did that for a year or so. It worked okay, but I kept hitting it with my leg. You can put the coin holder back in when the controller is not needed.

But I liked the controller in the middle of dash below the radio in front of the 5 speed stick, so I could activate it if needed with my right hand as my right hand was used to shift and was close at hand.

2020+ models removed the little bin to the left of the wheel that was a convenient spot to put a brake controller in. You wonder why Toyota makes adding controller so easy (the wiring is hidden up in the firewall) on all 6 cylinders, but actually mounting it is a problem.

Crooked Beat, thanks for the tip on the floor grommet. I ran 2 wires up through it and under the trim and behind the kick-plate. Ran the ground through the Firewall grommet.
Only SNAFU? Etrailer kit gave me a 30 and two 20amp breakers. 40 is on the way after I called them.
