Hey y'all. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on which exhaust systems sound and preform the best on the 2.7L. If possible, please include the price and which site I'd be able to get it. Feel free to post videos of your trucks sound. Thanks!

Projector headlights, flowmaster 40 series muffler, deckplate, a lot to come!
Hello, i don't know any numbers involving performance, but as for sound I just put a FlowMaster 40 series muffler w/ a 2.5 foot tailpipe on my 2.7 and I couldn't be happier with the sound. Not high and raspy, more of a low growl with with hollow echo. I would recommend it.

Based on what I've heard on youtube videos the Flowmaster 40 series muffler starts to sound like a fart can after about 3000 rpm's. I've also heard that some Flowmaster products rust from the inside out. How long have you both had yours?

I put a magnaflow on recently and I like it. It sounds nice down low and there isn't much of a difference once it's revved up, all I can hear is the noise the deck plate makes at that point

The magnaflow on mow taco's 2.4l sounded good. Not loud, but not ricey at all. If you want noise get an aero turbine, but if you want a nice mild sound magnaflow would be great.

They sound real good up until 3500, but with these engines I see no real reason to rev them that high anyway.

You shittin' me? That's right when the Vtec kicks in haha. Mine pulls the hardest from 2,800 or so up to 4,500.

I need to get my exhaust clips uploaded, but check this thread out:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/4-cylinder/173220-4-banger-exhaust-sound-clips.html

Most of the common mufflers have clips in there. The Magnaflow sounds awesome down low, and IMO sounds relatively stock once you're over about 2k RPMs. But as I said before, the deck plate/ silencer delete is screaming by that point so it drowns out any exhaust noise. It also sounds sweet under engine braking, it pops and crackles like a straight pipe would. I'm happy with it

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
If you want better low end torque, forget the muffler and pipe and install a $399 LCE long tube header.

    Good thread

My buddy has a flowmaster 40 series on his 2.7l, and I have always thought it sounded good. He just put the same thing on his gfs v6 4runner and it sounds even better.

i have the mini header on my 97 with 2.25 piping from the down tube back to a 3 inch 12" long tip. I have a 14" magnaflow in stock location with a 12" Jones Resonator in place of the cat. It sounds GREAT i have easily been through 7 different exhaust configurations and this one is by far my favorite. The rice scream doesn't start till you hit like 4.5k rpm and it has a deep hollow kind of sound. Not high pitched at all and sort of sounds like a cbr1000 with a deep (sounding) exhaust system on it.

Weird comparison i know but it just sounds good, i would recommend.

    ABS sucks.
22" Magnaflow (18135) glasspack. Yes? No? Does anyone know how the exhaust note is?

Bought my '02 two years ago with a cat back system someone had snagged together. I just replaced it with an OEM system that was $380 delivered and it sounds so good. One piece - all welded together - mandrel bent.
That 2.7 four droning on the highway gets old in a hurry.

Mine is an 18", the longer you go the quieter it'll be. There's a video of a 2.7 with the same one I have in the thread I linked earlier
