2 explosions at Boston marathon finish

I know some of you only get your news from TW, so here you go.

BOSTON - Authorities are investigating a report of two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
There were two booms heard from near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel.
Race officials locked down the hotel because of the report.
The sound of two booms, which sounded like thunder, had come a short time earlier.

None of the news sources seem to know very much at this time. Luckily there was medical staff setup to assist runners after they finished, they are reportedly acting as a trauma point. They keep saying dozens injured,

There are reports of two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

The blasts occurred on Boylston Street hours after the top runners had finished the race, but with thousands of marathoners still running the route.

The first blast was quickly followed by a second.

There was no immediate information on injuries, but Boston EMS personnel could be seen shuttling the injured out of the blast area on wheelchairs. Several of them were bleeding from the face.

Police have told people in area to avoid trash cans, according to witnesses.

The explosions erupted on what is usually a festive day in Boston. It is designated Patriots Day and most offices are closed for the celebration and the marathon.

 

just reported on CNN the think that pipe bombs are the cause to the explosion, but not confirmed yet.

Fox news says 3 confirmed dead. Locals news station websites are overloaded with traffic and down. Friends down there said it's basically pandemonium

Boston.com sports producer Steve Silva was near the finish line when the explosions occurred near the intersection of Boylston and Exeter streets.

"I was there at the finish, shooting finish line scenes, and then bang, it just went off, and then less than 15 to 20 seconds after there was a second explosion, closer to Fairfield street," Silva said.

"It was just immediately [evident] there were injuries, right in the middle of the spectator crowds. There was blood everywhere, there were victims being carried out on stretchers. I saw someone lose their leg, people are crying, people are confused."

"It was just an explosion, it came out of nowhere. There are multiple injuries. I saw dismemberment, I saw blood everywhere. People are badly injured."

The marathon was being run in honor of the Newtown victims.

"Some [Newtown] families were apparently watching from near the finish line"
"Oh jeez, AP reporter on TV says Newtown families were in the VIP section right by the explosion. No injury reports, she's locked down w/ one"

Can only imagine the feeling of "What next?!" they're having.
