Which is your flavor? To drill into the sheet metal to install roof mount NMO style antenna which will give the best all around performance. or do you prefer a mag mount. I chose the NMO style for best performance and drilled into the roof, running a yaesu 2800m.

Thanks for the link :) I don't want to drill holes I know that it's better but not that committed yet. I was thinking maybe like a bracket mount or mag mount. I just bought a used 2m radio and I'm going to test for my tech license. I use to have one but let it expire years ago.

I wasn't sure if the through the glass antennas worked very good. I know years ago they weren't so great. But I will check into it.
    Thanks

How are tram antennas? The local shop has them. I thought about using a mount on the box rail with a nmo ant

no ground on the rail at all. I went with an antenna that did not require grounding to the car.

There are two you can do that dont require ground plane.
    SG7500NMO
    NR770HA

They come in black too. I found someone on this forum who helped me find some metal tabs that fit into the ridges behind the bed rail. These plates have a bolt hole. I then used a diamond RV mount, angeled at 90 degrees to thread the bolts thought. It left a large hole so I used an NMO male end, seperated it and used the washer to tighten down on the CB style hole. This is the mount for the antennal.

Actually I just looked at it and realized I went with commet antenna

SBB5. I liked the style more and did not have the center ballan or coil pack in the middle of antenna. It looked more cell like. ill upload a few pics.

custom billet grill, behind grill light bar, 4 hella 500's, custom ham radio install.
I have a diamond that i mounted to the bedrail. I used a tie down bracket that i bought off a guy on here and drilled it out just a lil to make it fit.. ran the connector under the cab and under my rear seat. Plugs into my Yaesu FT 8900 mounted under my drivers seat. Works great.

I think I'm going to mount it like you have. But I have one question I noticed your mount is away from the cab do you get to much reflection up by the cab? I was thinking of putting mine on the front of the box.

I just put in two NMO mounts on the roof. Did a quick SWR check and it was looking real nice. less than 1.4 to 1.
