So, my wife is considering her next car, but after driving my truck around for a weekend she says she wants a Taco! She has looked at the 4runners but we want to stay around 30K and the 4runners are more than that for sure. We really aren't looking for a used car because she drives them forever (she's rocking an '03 right now) and it doesn't make sense to us to pay $32K+ for a nice 4runner that has 40-50K miles on it. That's just 3 or 4 years worth of mileage she's not going to get to experience in a nice new troublefree vehicle.

So, does ANYONE else on this board have dual tacos and nothing else? Curious about your thoughts. Mileage is a concern but not a huge one, and it's not like a 4runner is going to get a lot better mileage than the Taco.

We might just become the Tacomaworld poster family! Let me know your thoughts.

If you can buy a new truck for the cost of a 50K 4runner and you intend to drive it a long time, I say go for it. The money you save in repairs and maintenance the first few years should help offset the additional fuel the truck will use.

I'm single, but my Tacoma does everything I need it to do. It's comfy on long trips, maybe a little loud, but I rarely drive with the stereo off anyway. It's not a good people hauler, but you already have a double cab........what capability are you really losing if you go Taco over an 4Runner? Maybe if you have kids and dogs that could be an issue......slightly harder to park the Taco......

Yeah, we have a dog but no kids, and plans to have no kids (not just no plans to have kids, if that makes sense).

Well the first question I would ask is: Do you need something that big? Do you need two pickup beds? If not, there are other alternatives that will save you money both up-front and long-term if they are more fuel-efficient. Have her test drive some 4-door sedans and see how she likes the feel. If she cant find any other alternatives, then by all means get another Taco!!

Some may call getting two of the same car fanaticism, but honestly, the Tacoma stands out. Its reliability speaks for itself, and they have proven to be both effective daily's as well as toys. Not to mention if you have two, you can get one access cab and one double cab, or regular or whatever. That way you have the best of both worlds!!

Let us know what you come up with!

Yeah, if it's a sedan she wants a full size. The leading candidate for sedans is a new Turbo Sonata, but they don't have AWD. She doesn't want a two door, nor does she want a Honda. I love Acura TLs but they're out of our range, as are the BMW 5-series. I like the AWD Legacy but it's too hippy-ish for her. No interest in the Toyota sedans, and a brand new Ford is a terrible buy in my opinion (do they even know what the words Resale or Residual Value mean?). I would MAYBE consider a new Explorer but she's not a fan. We've gone through all the small hyundai/nissan/kia SUVs with no real interest.

Dude, I had a BMW and it failed me miserably. I dont know if you've ever owned one but both my coworker and i traded our worlds shittiest driving machines for Tacomas. My wife drives a pathfinder and loves it to death. 400 bucks in maintenance since 2006.

One of my customers has the kind of income that allows him to buy whatever he feels like, whenever he feels like it. He and his wife bought two nearly identical 7 series BMWs, drove them for a year and traded them in on a pair of Caddys. BOTH of those BMWs were nothing but problems, mostly with the electronics. I guess the Caddys have been good to them, go figure.

You should be able to get a 4Runner for $30K OTD. Look for SR5's without the side steps and no sunroof. Of course not a 4x4 either. Be advised though, I found out that the 4Runners for 2013 will have enTune in them. That would be super sweet. So save for an extra 8/9 months and make the investment later. By then you could justify the extra $2k for the system. Food for thought.

I don't know about 30 I got one of our 2011 4 runners for 32000.00 new. That one is a basic sr5 4x4 with sunroof. Still a pretty nice car. We also have a limited that is my wife's daily driver that was closer to 42k but man is it nice. You might be able to get a 2wd for about 30 if that's of interest. For a car for my wife the 4 runner is great it is way roomier, more comfortable on the street and gets better mpg than my Tacoma. For reference the one we paid 32k for had a sticker of 35800.00

I think it would be sick if she got the 4runner. More a girl car to be honest. Not sayin anything to guys that have em but it goes both ways. I think it would be sick if my girl had the same color 4runner as my taco. Not sure what your trade in is or value but if you set up a 40k 4runner, you could get price down to 32-34k easy and with the trade in is probably another 2-4k. If you trade in a vehicle at the same time as a NEW car purchase the dealer is a lot more lenient to take the trade in #1 and also get your business on the new car purchase because they need to me quota's in a month. Go at the end of the month at one dealer and get a legit estimate... walk out. then next month get a legit estimate from another dealer and BRING the previous estimate from the other dealer. He will try to beat previous dealer by about $1000 at least and weasel even more out of em. Say Eagledynasty sent you HAHAHA. I shop for my friends cars all the time and get great deals. Good luck. Im goin to bed haha

Yeah, we don't all live in San Diego. :p 4x4 would be requisite.

$6 to $8K off a $40K sticker? No way is my local dealer coming down 20% on a new vehicle. They just don't need to deal like that around here - college town with lots of money (comparatively, for the midwest) - not the same everywhere I guess. I'll keep that in mind though. No harm in offering something like that when we get serious about buying.

It's just like a sale on a TV at best buy. Best buy needs to get that TV off the shelf for something new and better with ^% profit. Car dealers need to that ANDDD on top of that need to meet quotas and get incentives from toyota to reach those quotas. Which is worth more then 8K. if you get them at the end of the month and there 198 cars and need 200. Jack Pot. Like my moms armada I helped her get... 22% off
