It really does sound like exhaust drone. The odd thing is when you are in different gears it usually moves the rpm that the drone is at or eliminates it. Drones are a combination of engine load and exhaust resonance so changing engine load by changing gears should change the drone. It sounds so sudden on and off at such a precise rpm too.

Hmm that’s weird I can deff hear it in the video, maybe see if the dealer can turn off the fake engine noise, never know that could be causing it

I hear it all the time in mine at about same RPM 2k! dealership has told me that they think it’s the enhanced motor noise in speakers and I set a appointment with them to turn that off on Friday so if that works I’ll let you know!

Yah I’ve been messaging some people on Reddit. Some have said it’s active noise cancelling interference so maybe if fake engine noise doesn’t work try that? I have an appt tues! Keep me updated please haha

I've also had this same issue. Thought it was maybe caused by adding a roll up metal tonneau reverberating the drone. I've turned off the fake engine noise with Carista, but left the ANC turned on. I may try to turn that off and see if it continues... Sound deadening the back wall of the cab helped a bit.

Definitely let me know if it helps! I thought that at first too but when I open up the cover I still experience it. However when I roll a window down in the cab it’s gone! If it is the noise cancelling I wonder if the cab is going to be a lot noisier

Update! Went to dealership got them to turn off engine sound enhancement and active noise cancelling. Problem is gone. Maybe I had a faulty active noise canceling. The tech couldn’t believe turning those off fixed the issue either. Good luck to anyone else who may have this issue!

4 cyl drone. My 3rd does this. My wife hates it. I’m deaf so I don’t care.

I took mine in on Friday and picked it up Saturday and I still have the drone don’t believe dealer did anything to my truck. It seems as my insurance company has a obd2 port reader for my driving that says it was not unplugged. But maybe I am wrong or dealer screwed me who knows

You motivated me to pay for another month of Carista subscription to turn off the ANC. I’m now kicking myself for not turning it off sooner. I originally turned off the fake engine noise, but left ANC turned on. This was definitely the source of my drone!

I think the ANC system is trying to pump in resonance through the rear speakers to cancel out the exhaust frequency, but is not calibrated very well. I had some loose sockets in the rear passenger door cupholders that would rattle like crazy alongside the drone. It makes more sense now that the rear speaker was likely causing those rattles.

Glad it worked out for you. Definitely was ruining my driving experience haha. Do you notice the road noise being louder when you’re not in that rpm range now? Wondering if we got a faulty ANC or mic or something. Might try to warranty later maybe if enough people complain about it and they have a fix.

It’s hard to say. Road noise on the freeway seemed normal. I was thinking low rpm range around 1K seemed louder but I’m really not sure because I’ve only driven 20 miles since changing.

I previously added sound deadener to the hood and rear cab wall which already helped so it’s probably not a fair comparison anymore. Once it gets warmer I plan on sound deadening all of the doors and will call it a day trying to reduce cabin noise.

Good find - this is very interesting. I've done same turning off the ESE, but left ANC because I really liked the idea of quieting the cab while highway cruising. Did you notice a difference with ANC off besides getting rid of the drone?

I haven’t noticed any other differences, but very short drive time since turning off. Will update again in a few days after I have more time to listen

I feel like things may be 15-20 percent louder like tire noise or cars driving but nothing huge. I would warranty the anc just to fix it out of principle if I was confident they could fix it lol
