You can run that axle, the truck doesn't give a crap what axle is under it as long as it's geared haha. Get the vin off any vehicle you take parts like that off as you'd want to call the Toyota dealership and ask if they have record of what hearing is in the vehicle. Prerunner 3.4 out here in the west is usually 4:10 gearing.

How's it coming? Just bought a 5vz to replace my tired motor in my first gen - any words of wisdom? I bought a transmission from the same truck.

Swapping the motor is not at all anything I worried about. I'm at the part where I'm figuring out what I'm doing as far as the harness... it's going slow and easy but I'm sure I'll get it done. Need a t100 ecu but I may just swap out the whole trans I'm not sure yet if I want to move up to the newer style like my Taco has now or not. Pretty excited to have a 4 runner and especially love the second gen with the tailgate. Also... bought another 4 runner haha 3rd gen 4x4 with the 3.4 and it's awesome! Already about to build a bumper for it!

"Pull up, hop out, make it look sexy!" Looking freaking slick my dude keep me posted! Now that your done, do you agree that it's the best thing you can do as far as learning the mechanics of your vehicle.

Yessir, however I have to confess.... I've already started researching 1 ton axles lol. That will be awhile though. Really excited about this conversion though, I'm ready to start building this truck up the way I want it now. I'm no longer confined to poser 2wd status to keep me from doing so.

My main thing about this conversion as a project is it opens all the doors. It removes most of the fear of working on your own vehicle from here on out. I couldn't even tell you how many times I'm out on the trail and I'm able to help out other toyotas as well as myself

For sure! I grew up building race cars so mechanically I'm fairly familiar with understanding how things work together. But now I know what size bolts are where, and I can probably tell you what that weird sound is you're hearing if you have one on a Tacoma. It's def a great way to get to know your truck that's for sure!

Out here just chugging along 295k now, rear main is leaking now... did my valve cover gaskets last weekend and grabbed the stuff I need to do the rear main. Yesterday I worked on the front end of my truck with a buddy. We got a nice little cage around the radiator for protection. Some pics... also made my lil bro lift his 4runner. A member on here gave me an OME lift for the front and we slapped it on as well as threw on some Tacoma wheels with BFG mud terrains haha.

My little brothers 4 runner, it had a set of Tacoma wheels and tires but I want to get him wheeling so we upgraded slightly on the cheap.

I'm actually doing this swap next month. In case anyone wanted a thorough parts list (assuming you will be using Manual Hubs and swapping over a Manual Front Jackshaft) here's what I bought so far:

Is this an A340F? That looks nothing like the transmission filter on my A340F. It's a lot smaller than mine.

Yes hahahaha. That picture was because I used the speed cable from my 2wd trans because the tranny I bought was broken at the plastic where it mounts up

I wonder why the A340F trans. filter is bigger than the A340E's considering the use the same internals.

Well the f holds a shit ton more trans oil if I remember right so maybe just proportionate to the amount of oil it has to filter consistantly

I was under an impression they were both identical in exception to the output shaft, maybe the torque converter holds more?
