cat converter.jpg cat conterter1.jpg The 1st gen dual catalytic converter anti-theft shields for the years 2001-2004 are now available for order. I have redesigned the shield to protect the pipe between the two cats, preventing the thief from cutting the middle where the valuable metals are located. The presence of the shield alone can deter most thieves from attempting to cut it. The attached pictures show the final fitment, which is secured by two exhaust clamps. Assembly is required, as depicted in the photos, and the product comes in five pieces with assembly hardware and clamps. Both Aluminum and steel materials will be offered. Thicker shields may not always be better in this application. Thin sheet metal flexes a lot when cut, while thicker sheet metal is less prone to flexing, making cutting easier. This is comparable to attempting to cut sheet metal with a jigsaw, which tends to bite and move up and down when the metal flexes back and forth. As a result, I will offer three different thicknesses for you to choose from.

I discussed with a catalytic recycling company if the would accept a cat that was cut in the middle damaging the core, they said no. So this design will protect your cats from being stolen.

I changed how I'm selling shields now. I only offer one thickness 1/8" steel. Available here for $220.00 with free shipping. Or eBay for $240.00 free shipping.

1St gen single cat shield is still under development.

Is your design utilizing the same bolts as the transmission mount >>> crossmember 3?

Nope, it wouldn't since that would put it too far to center. Can you do a quick overview of the install? Thanks!

I'm interested in single cat wherever that's in production.

What do you think about aluminum vs steel regarding ease of cutting by cat thieves? That was the selling point when I got a cat shield on my Prius after the original cat got stolen. I think it's a 3/16 plate. Supposedly the thicker aluminum will gum up a high speed saw blade, which is what they might use when cutting the pipe. I suspect theives carry a limited range of tools because they want to get in/out quickly. When they scope out a victim truck maybe they move onto easier prey if it's going to be too long or difficult to get. I've had the cat shield on the Prius for 4 years without incident but not sure if it really matters if it's made out of alu or steel. Is thick alu really harder to cut?

Aluminum would be easier to cut. There may be a price drop also. Working out the materials, time to make and shipping cost.

Watching this thread. Interested and waiting for the final plan/cost.

It may be helpful for others if you spell out what trucks have single and dual cat systems. I had to think about that for a second before reading on.

I'm inerested. The last time I looked on here the shield was mounted. Can you make the rear cat cover longer? The desciption says, "...These are pictures of the fitment of prototype. It's held on by 2 exhaust clamps." Could you show how the clamps are mounted?
