Does it get assembled then installed, or assembled while installing?

Half and half. the bottom and the outside panel will be assembled outside. The inside panel will go on last. The nuts for the inside panel will be tack welded to lower portion to ease install.

Legitimate question here. The shield seemed to be well made but is only attached in place with 2 exhaust pipe hanger and not attach to the frame or xmember. Who's to say thief can't cut before the first cat and after the second cat, cut the rubber hanger and slide everthing it out as a whole? Or an impact to remove the the 4 nut in the pipe hanger, cut the front and rear cat pipe and slide just the cat out and keep the shield in place if it bind?

    Or am I missing something?

Its really hard to access the front of the pipe. If you do squeeze A Sawzall in there your cutting through the O2 sensor boss with would take a long time. Converter thief's usually don't run around with wrenches in there pockets. If your concerned about it use a hammer and flatten the threads on the ends of the clamps. The mere sight of a anti-theft device will deter most criminals. No theft device is 100% if a thief has enough time. As far as the pipe behind the 2nd cat should I make a cover that covers the pipe clear to muffler also?

Doubt they carry wrench, more like battery operated impact.

The guard is a good idea and it should deter someone looking for a quick and easy access but like anything else, it's a deterrent. But sadly toyota is known for its valuable cat and most thief will put up a fight. The bung is actually super easy to cut off if you haven't try. Not to deter anyone from buying your product but we use Dewalt Sawzall at work to cut 3/4" rebar with ease and also cut 1/2" steel cable without any struggle.

I welded 2 - 3/8" steel cable together and welded it to my t100 cat and thought it will deter them from cutting. Nope, Ring Camera caught them going under my truck and was out in under a minute with my cat. Cable didn't slow them down.

I think the best thing to do it isolate the guard from the pipe/cat and extend the coverage protection. That will make it twice as hard too cut and remove. The way it is now, I honestly don't think it will provide much protection because cutting the front and rear pipe is possible and isolating the guard is simple with 4 nut. Plus, I can imagine vibration and noise, especially being held in place with just 2 round clamp.

There's no way to protect the rear of the pipe. Unless you cover it clear to the muffler. Accessing the front of the pipe isn't easy. If you do cut it getting the converter out will be impossible with shield on. The nuts on the clamps are double nutted grade 8 nuts. Making it harder to just cut or unscrew them. No vibration noise while being tested on my truck.

Are you sure you only have one cat? From what I understand 2001-2004 all had 2 cats.

I could be wrong. Here is a diagram I found online that shows the complete exhaust system on a 2002 Tacoma.

Looks like there is one coming off the exhaust manifold and another just before the muffler. Does that sound about right?? If so, I don't think I need worry about the one nearest the engine as it would be difficult to get to.

You have the double cats. The cover will fit your truck. What's your zip code?
